11 brides share with us how they found the wedding gown of their dreams - from Singapore bridal boutiques to custom designs tailored overseas, to even Carousell.
"I tried on nearly 30 dresses at five different bridal shops before I found my wedding gown. As for my second gown, I designed it together with my mom. We discussed about the fabrics we liked and other details like the beaded straps and pleating at the back of the dress. My mom then sourced for the fabrics and materials and sewn the dress herself!" They ended up being very different from what I initially envisioned for myself, which was something simple with tulle or crepe." While most couples would agree that the outfit selection is usually centered around the bride, we made it a point to ensure that both our preferences were equally considered. We started by shortlisting the outfit designs and colours of my husband's choice as there are usually fewer traditional outfit choices for men, and proceeded on considering the matching outfits for me. We eventually decided on a traditional design with a modern twist in gold and black, with matching accessories. We were exceptionally pleased with the overall look!" I also wanted it to have a low back, and to be comfortable enough to dance in. I finally found my Made With Love lace gown from Bluebell Bridal in Melbourne and my bridesmaid's fiance's mum who's a seamstress, fitted me." So when I was on my gown search, I flew to Jakarta for a consultation and she sketched out some designs for me. In the end, I made a Chantilly lace mermaid gown for the morning festivities. For my banquet, I had a detachable, semi-sheer organza outer skirt that transformed my gown into a ballgown." For more of Carina's wedding: A GLITTERING STARRY THEMED BALLROOM WEDDING AT THE ST. REGIS SINGAPORE Image by Bittersweet Photography "I was looking for a satin gown with lace. Because my wedding was in Bali, I was learning towards a mermaid or trumpet cut instead of A-line or ballgown. I went to nearly 10 bridal shops and finally found the dress in the last shop I visited - Blessed Brides. They had an amazing range of gowns from Pronovias and Rosa Clara that suited my taste perfectly." I found my A-line strapless white gown with tulle and organza off Carousell while I tailored my lace cheongsam for the tea ceremony during a business trip in Shanghai." However, just six days before my wedding, I was informed that the gown will not be ready in time. So I immediately called the other bridal shop I was also working with and we managed to find a gown I liked within hours. They were so helpful and professional, even altering the gown for me over the next couple of days. It was nerve-wrecking but the replacement gown looked great on me in the end." In the end, I had three designs made by her for my wedding." I could not find anything like that with wedding gown designers so I sourced for it myself by going online." Image: Apel Photography "It was an easy search for me as I already knew what I wanted and had it pinned to my Pinterest board - though I had never figured out the name of the gown. A month after my proposal, I found my Vera Wang Gemma gown at Tiara Bridal and knew it was the one when I tried it on. I tried on several gowns after, but they didn't look as good on me as the Gemma gown. There was an instant affinity because of its elegance, simplicity and the way it flattered my body shape."
