Fans of Gucci’s gorpcore outing with The North Face will be glad to know that the two brands are teaming up for a second time. The highly popular collaboration – Gucci’s website reportedly crashed when the campaign for the first instalment of the tie-up was revealed in January this year – will hit shelves here in January 2022.

Sticking to the collections’ theme of exploration and self-discovery, the co-ed and co-branded outing is predominantly stocked with outdoorsy staples like hiking boots, multi-pocketed backpacks, bucket hats, parkas and padded jackets.

The campaign for the co-branded collection by Gucci and The North Face was shot by French twins Jalan and Jibril Durimel in Iceland.

Naturally, Alessandro Michele has also packed the over 100 piece-strong collection with other items that can be worn year-round and not just for braving the elements in colder climes, with designs such as silk shirts and dresses, tracksuits and accessories like caps.

To give the collection a distinctive vintage flair, Michele reimagined some designs from The North Face’s ’90s archives and mined woodland-inspired prints and floral patterns from the Italian house’s own archives.

Woodland-inspired prints that appear on selected designs add to the vintage charm of The North Face x Gucci collection.

A selection of jackets from The North Face’s collections from the ’70s were also remastered using newer construction and technology. These include special yarns that help to regulate body heat and an ultralight bonded baffle construction to replace stitching.

The collection also continues the sustainability efforts of both brands. Econyl, a nylon fabric derived from regenerated materials like fishing nets, carpets and other scraps, is the main material used for the designs. Meanwhile, 100 per cent of the goose-down insulation used is certified to the Responsible Down Standard by Control Union.

Now, that’s how we all want to venture out into the brave new world.
