You mentioned bringing a fierce, girl crush, and sexy side to Waterbomb Singapore. What inspired this?
Sorn: It all goes back to my time with CLC. We were known for the girl crush concept, and I think fans might be missing that vibe. I want to bring back that energy and remind everyone of the great times with CLC.
How do you feel about performing at a water music festival like Waterbomb?
Sorn: Performing at a water music festival is always thrilling! I’ve performed at Waterbomb in Daegu with CLC, and it was one of the most exciting stages we did. I love the freedom it gives me to interact with the audience and make the performance feel more authentic and enjoyable for everyone.
What are you most excited about for Waterbomb Singapore 2024?
Sorn: I’m really excited to see my Singapore fans again! It’s been a while since my solo concert last year, and I haven’t had a chance to meet everyone. I’m looking forward to interacting with my fans and seeing people from all around the world who are flying in for the show.
Are there any other artists performing at Waterbomb Singapore that you are excited to see or collaborate with?
Sorn: Yes! My friends Bam Bam and Chung Ha are performing on the same day as me. I’m excited to support their performances and reunite with them here in Singapore.
Tell us a little about one of your latest singles, “Crazy Stupid Lovers.” What was the inspiration behind your collaboration with Hongseok?
Sorn: “Crazy Stupid Lovers” is a fun, bubbly song about two childhood best friends who fall in love. It’s a spring love song that I’ve been working on for about two years. Reconnecting with Hongseok felt right, and he was the perfect person for this collaboration!
I understand that you’re working on new tracks for your upcoming EP. What can fans expect from these new songs?
Sorn: My upcoming EP will feature tracks written by the same producers who worked on my debut song “Sharp Objects.” Fans can expect a “Sharp Objects” chapter 2 with a fierce and girl crush version of me. I’m really excited for everyone to hear it!
As a solo artist, how do you find balancing live performances and studio work?
Sorn: I enjoy what I do so much that it never feels like work. I release music at my own pace without external pressure. I’m fortunate to work with trusted producers from around the world, allowing me to create music wherever I am.
You have a strong presence on social media. How does fan interaction influence your music and performances?
Sorn: I try to show my authentic self on social media, communicating with fans as if they’re friends. I keep them updated about my life and work. On stage, I bring out a different side of me, which I think fans enjoy seeing.
How do you stay motivated and inspired in your music career?
Sorn: Traveling and meeting new people keeps me motivated and inspired. Each city’s energy influences me, and connecting with diverse individuals helps me stay driven and creative.
What’s one song you always listen to before going on stage to get pumped up?
Sorn: I love listening to Sabrina Carpenter’s songs before going on stage. Her music always puts me in a good mood!
How do you feel about the rapid changes and trends in the music industry, and how do you keep up?
Sorn: It’s great to see so many inspiring artists and new music. However, keeping up with trends can be challenging. Sometimes, the fast pace can make it harder to promote music the way I want, as there’s pressure to follow trends.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to aspiring artists who look up to you?
Sorn: Always be true to yourself. Create music that resonates with you and do what feels right for you. Following others’ expectations can be draining. Stay authentic, as you are responsible for your own career.
What are your plans and goals for the rest of the year beyond Waterbomb Singapore 2024?
Sorn: I’m focusing on releasing my EP and showcasing who Sorn is as an artist. After that, I plan to return to LA to work on more music. Stay tuned for exciting updates!
