Samsung’s new line-up has a device for every personality type

My phone is basically an extension of me at this point. It’s the first thing I reach for the moment I wake up, and the last thing I look at before I fall asleep. It’s a habit I can’t kick, but I’ve just decided to deal with it since I’m so chronically online.

So when Samsung recently announced the launch of its new range of foldables and watches, I didn’t just want to run through the spec sheet. I wanted to know which one actually fits how I live, and by extension, how you might live too. In this roundup, I’ve decided to break down the new Galaxy Z Series and Galaxy Watch line-up, sorted by personality, not just numbers.

The Chronically Online: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 (my personal favourite)

I’ll admit it, I’m one of those who can’t put their phone down – which I’m sure many can relate to as well. Doomscrolling in bed, watching one more video “before I sleep,” replying to messages mid-scroll, and the list goes on. So naturally, out of all the products from the new lineup, the Z Fold8 might be the phone that was built for users like me.

I can easily hold it comfortably with four fingers, no strain, no weird dent forming on my pinky after an hour of scrolling.

It’s Samsung’s lightest Fold yet at 201g, and you can genuinely feel it. The display has clearly been designed around how people actually use their phones day to day. You can view updates on the cover screen, then a wider 4:3 canvas when you unfold it for a proper viewing or reading session – which genuinely feels like a mini tablet in your hands. And even under Singapore’s relentless midday sun, the screen stays crisp. It has up to 3,000 nits of brightness, which means I don’t have to squint to read a text while I’m at the beach. The battery also had a nice bump from last year’s Fold7, now at 4,800mAh, and I got it to 63% in just 30 minutes on a charge, which matters more than people think when you’re the type glued to your phone all day.

Good for: Essentially, this phone is the perfect fit for the doomscrollers, the chronically online, or anyone who wants a phone that’s actually comfortable to hold for hours

The Multitasker: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra

If your work life looks anything like mine, for instance, checking emails, glancing at your calendar, and somehow being on a Zoom call all at the same time, the Fold8 Ultra is the one that actually delivers on doing all three without everything feeling cramped.

I tested this exact scenario: email open on one side, calendar pulled up, Zoom call running, and the size of that 8-inch display meant I wasn’t squeezing three windows into a space meant for one. It genuinely made multitasking feel less like a workaround and more like the phone was built for it. And on days I’m not doing the full juggling act, it’s just as good for working quietly in the background while a video plays alongside it on my commute.

It’s also, somehow, the slimmest Z Fold Samsung has ever made. It’s 4.1mm when it’s unfolded, so all that extra canvas doesn’t come with extra bulk. Battery-wise, the 5,000mAh cell got me to 67% in 30 minutes, which is the kind of top-up that actually works with a packed schedule. And if you shoot content for work, the camera system doesn’t disappoint either. The phone boasts a  200MP main sensor with HDR, a new 50MP ultra-wide for wider scenes, and 8K video for anyone who edits as seriously as they shoot.

The Content Creator: Samsung Galaxy Z Flip8

With how immersed we all are in social media and making videos these days, the Flip8 just makes sense. It’s small, compact, and so easy to whip out the second inspiration hits. 

What I loved most is that you can fold it and prop it up to take photos without needing a tripod. And trust me, if you know how annoying it is to lean your phone on a bottle or a wall, you’ll know how this is such a lifesaver because you can be more spontaneous with making content. And for anyone who’s hesitant about the crease (I know it’s always the first thing people ask about), it’s genuinely not that obvious on this one. Using it feels seamless, and you barely notice the crease in the middle unless you fold it. 

At 180g, it’s the thinnest and lightest Flip Samsung has made, which matters when this is the phone you’re pulling out constantly for a quick clip or selfie. The redesigned FlexWindow is a proper upgrade too because it’s been rebuilt as an AI-native home screen, with a refreshed daily brief so you can get what you need without ever unfolding it. To top it all off, it also has a 50MP camera and flexible shooting angles for hands-free filming, and it’s basically the phone equivalent of always being camera-ready.

The Wellness Enthusiast: Samsung Galaxy Watch9

My watch is something I like to keep close to me throughout the day. I use it to keep tabs on my stats, get a sense of how my body’s doing, and figure out what I actually need to work on. More recently, I’ve been especially focused on improving my sleep and heart health this year, and the Watch9 is built exactly for that.

For the Watch9, what struck me most is how lightweight it is; it feels like you forget it’s on your wrist. The Adventurer: Samsung Galaxy Watch Ultra2

Personally, the Ultra2 was a little too big for my wrist. But that’s kind of the point because I feel like this one’s for someone more adventurous, more rugged than me. If you already own a simple smartwatch and you’re ready to level up to something with real pro features, this is the upgrade. Think, trail runners, divers, the ones who run marathons regularly.

In this watch, the Trail Run mode tracks elevation and terrain in real time, and Nutrition Alert gives hydration guidance based on your actual sweat loss. It’s also genuinely dive-ready and it can start tracking depth, time, and water temperature automatically the second you hit the water.

The watch is also built with an 800mAh battery, which is 35% bigger than the previous Ultra, and a 5,000-nit display (a first for Samsung) so it stays legible even under blazing sun. And despite the bigger battery, Samsung’s slimmed the whole thing down by 12%, so it can go from a trail run to dinner without feeling like sports gear.
