The Chinese New Year (CNY) is upon us again and chances are, your house is stocked with mountains of festive goodies; from bak kwas and pineapple tarts to fizzy drinks and Yushengs. No wonder everybody is eager to dig in.

But do you know that many of these food and drinks that we binge on during the lunar new year with our friends and family can in fact contain high levels of hidden sugar, oil and salt? Maybe you did or maybe you didn’t. In any case, the Singapore government has posted a clip on their Facebook page to spread the message of healthy eating this festive season.

In this hilarious 1.5 minute-long clip titled Kungfu Fighter, Hidden Sugar (got the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon reference here?), a helpless family had gathered at a Chinese inn, getting ready to tuck into the yummy CNY goodies and dinner prepared by Sugar Archivillain.

The camera then zooms closer to each dish to reveal how much sugar is in it. For example, a tiny piece of pineapple tart contains one teaspoon of sugar. Eek, how unhealthy!

Thankfully, a female warrior named Guardian of Health, came to the family’s rescue. With her masterly kungfu skills, she proceeded to slice the bak kwas, soft drinks, sugar cubes and even Sugar Archivillain’s hair (haha!) using her Sugar Defeating Darts like a pro. In the end, the family was saved from an overconsumption of sugar, oil and salt.

The video, which was posted on the Gov.sg Facebook page on January 21, 2017, has since garnered over 7,100 reactions including more than 5,500 likes. Many netizens had left comments to commend the government for its good effort in successfully grabbing the attention of online users.
