Met Gala 2021: All the celeb dresses we are crushing on
From the slinky to the dramatic, these gowns wowed us

Met Gala 2021 has finally taken place after the postponement from its annual showing in May due to the pandemic. The theme this year was American Independence, and the accompanying exhibition is titled America: A Lexicon of Fashion. Unsurprisingly, fashion's big night churned out a plethora of looks ranging from slinky and translucent to big ruffled drama as celebrities turned up in their best.
One standout from the night was Billie Eilish. The seven-time Grammy Award winner took off her usual baggy outfits (see what she wore for the previous night's MTV Video Music Awards for reference) for a peach Oscar de la Renta gown that even Cinderella would be envious of. The dress, might we add, is constructed with heaps of tulle as evident by the 15-foot train. In exchange, the animal advocate made the brand promise to not sell fur, which they agreed. Eilish added on her Instagram post that she is "honored to have been a catalyst and to have been heard on this matter" and encouraged "all designers to do the same".
The Gen Z singer wasn't the only one who used the platform to push for political causes they believed in. Model Cara Delevingne fought for women empowerment with a Christian Dior outfit that read "Peg the Patriarchy" while Dutch YouTuber Nikki de Jager (NikkieTutorials), who came out as transgender last year, wore an outfit inspired by the late trans activist Marsha P. Johnson. Congresswomen Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to "Tax the Rich" with her white Brother Vellies dress and Carolyn B. Maloney pushed for "Equal Rights For Women". Rapper Saweetie celebrated her Filipino and Black American lineage by including the colours into her crystal Christian Cowan gown.
Here, we've rounded up the beautiful, extravagant gowns that were worn that night. From the slinky to the dramatic, keep scrolling to be wowed.
