For the Pre-fall season, creative director Virginie Viard presented the Chanel Metiers d’Art show in Dakar – the coastal capital of Senegal. Featuring an extensive exploration of rich textures and opulent materials that required hours of skilled craftsmanship, it’s her most eclectic showing yet.
Pop/soul/funk influences from the ’70s were evident throughout the collection – take, for instance, a white maxi crochet dress paired with a gold jewellery belt and embellished chandelier earrings.
STYLE TIP For a more polished take on crochet, avoid beaded accessories and opt for more luxurious jewellery instead. (Credit: Chanel)
Viard collaborated closely with Chanel’s creation studio in Paris and Le19M (a seven- storey structure that houses all of Chanel’s Metiers d’Art businesses and their 600 artisans), to craft these pieces that exude a sense of refined luxury. Since 2022, the Metiers d’Art collection has paid tribute to the incredible work of Chanel’s global artisans.
Over at The Row, the Olsen sisters, known for their penchant for classic and minimalist looks, made a slight departure from their usual austere dress codes. There were several handcrafted crochet pieces that were perhaps an ode to Mary-Kate’s signature boho style. Our favourite? A maxi crochet dress styled with matching gloves and leather sandals.
