Created by Gabrielle Chanel in 1921 with Ernest Beaux, the classic Chanel N°5 perfume is “a revolution, a symbol, simultaneously the most well-known and the most enigmatic of any fragrance.” The first perfume imagined by a woman for women and consistent with the founder’s pioneering vision, N°5 was, and still is, ahead of its time.

This year, Chanel N°5 celebrates its 100th anniversary with a new episode of its video series, Inside CHANEL, which spotlights the ways the French maison has inspired iconic celebrities and vice versa. And like previous instalments, the short film reflects on Chanel’s history and Gabrielle Chanel’s legacy.

From Marilyn Monroe who confessed that she wore only Chanel N°5 in bed, turning it into a myth, to Andy Warhol who made it a pop art icon, N°5 is undeniably a global cultural phenomenon. Stars and muses including Catherine DeneuveCarole BouquetNicole Kidman and current ambassador Marion Cotillard — who possess elegance, femininity, and modernity — continue to represent the qualities of the Chanel woman.

The new episode of ‘Inside CHANEL’ premieres on March 19, 2021 on the ‘Inside Chanel’ website.
