TO RELAX
Breathe Pilates has launched a unique workout that fuses elements of yoga, tai chi and Pilates. In Zen.Ga classes, participants use the reformer machine (a popular resistance training tool) to perform a variety of yoga and Pilates moves, such as downward dog, modified plank, push-ups and squats. These moves are aimed at strengthening your muscles, and improving your blood and lymphatic circulation. You’ll also improve your bodily awareness through meditative breathing and alignment techniques. It’s a relaxing workout that’s suitable for just about everyone, from deskbound executives to athletes in need of injury rehabilitation.
From $55 per person for a group session of up to five participants; private sessions start from $130. #13-02 Parkway Centre, 1 Marine Parade Central, tel: 9835-5683.
TO ENERGISE
No time to work out? That’s no longer an excuse with Pilates Fitness’ new HIIT Pilates series, which comprises three different spot-toning Pilates classes – namely HIIT Pilates Legs, HIIT Pilates Arms and HIIT Pilates Abs – each lasting 30 minutes. Expect intense, non-stop moves on the Pilates reformer, all set to rousing music. While these moves will definitely challenge your stamina, endurance and coordination, they’re also low-impact in nature, making them safe on your joints.
HIIT Pilates Leg will be launched in June, followed by HIIT Pilates Arms in July and HIIT Pilates Abs in August. Do note, however, that you’ll need to complete 10 Cardio Jumpboard classes and 5 Pilates reformer classes before going for your first HIIT Pilates class. This is to ensure that you have sufficient Pilates experience to keep up with the fast-paced class.
