Style Tips to Steal from Asian Celebs Who are July Babies
If you're running low on fashion inspo, here are some of our favourite style icons that will get you back on trend

We often place celebrities on the pedestal, because let’s face it, they’re the pinnacle of talent and style, and symbolise a life of all things glamorous and unattainable. But as far away as they are from our regular life, there’s one thing we can still do to be as close to them as possible — and that’s copying, sorry I mean learning, a thing or two from their style. You can be as put-together as your favourite celebrities and style icons, too, if you only know how to pair things together and carry them off like an A-lister.
We’ve rounded up seven fashionable Asian celebrities, from Priyanka Chopra, to Shin Se Kyung to our very own Stefanie Sun, who are turning a year wiser in July for you to draw style #inspo from.

OK, obviously pairing a top with a pair of trousers is a no-brainer. But it’s what kind of top you go with that makes a whole lot of difference. Singapore actress-host Belinda Lee (can you believe she’s turning 42?) showed us the perfect example of what an atypical top is — it’s one made of a silky navy blue material that sports a turtleneck, gathered details and blouson sleeves. Bonus: Wear it with a pair of pants that is equally striking, like what Belinda did. Hers comes with pleated fronts and a black, high-waisted silhouette.

Say you’ve got on a flirty sundress or a feminine floral number. The footwear you’d automatically reach for? Flats, strappy sandals or even low heeled mules, right? We say break the trend and go for a quirky contrast, just like what Singapore singer Kelly Poon did. Kelly, who’s turning 36, paired a pretty ensemble that has a sea-foam hue and a white pleated skirt with the most unorthodox of footwear — ugly dad sneakers. Definitely got the Japanese street style down pat.

Up-and-coming local actress Bonnie Loo, who’s turning 25, is blessed with great shoulders and an enviable décolletage — and she knows it too, judging by the number of shoulder-baring outfits she sports on her Instagram. It’s a style we totally dig too — it’s feminine, youthful, shows just the right amount of skin without traversing into the trashy arena, and helps you keep you cool too. So go bold and don those off-shoulder tops and tube tops. They are easy to style, and can be worn with anything from a pleated maxi skirt to a short leather mini and even skinnies.

We can’t explain it but Indian actress Priyanka Chopra, 37, has an irresistible quality about her. We don’t know whether it’s her captivating doe-eyes, her impressively smooth mane of hair or her full, luscious lips. Or perhaps, it is the fact that she can wear a lumpy sack and still look like she owns it. Of course, she is never in a lumpy sack. The graceful star is always in gorgeous outfits, like this orange dress. It looks conservative enough from the front, with long sleeves and a round neck collar, but it’s the sultry back that’s the star, with its deep, back-baring plunge. No one’s stopping you from wearing this to work, but remember your blazer.

You look in the mirror and you feel like your outfit’s a little flat. It needs a little dash of bling and you instinctively reach for necklaces and earrings to jazz up the outfit. Sounds familiar? Here, Hong Kong actress Sonija Kwok, 45, teaches us another way you can add bling to your ensemble — simply by wearing embellished outfits that come crusted and dazzled with crystals and other sparkly things. And if you’re worried that you might look more like a disco ball rather than going for a ball, go with something that has a nude colour undertone such as the blush pink dress that the former beauty queen sports here, to balance the shimmer. Go light and fresh with your makeup too.

She might be one of the biggest Mandopop singers around, but local songbird Stefanie Sun, who’s turning 41, has a chic yet relaxed, laid-back style that we can all relate to. Take this look that she rocked at the wedding of her friend and fellow singer Serene Koong, for example. At first glance, it might look like a simple slip dress, but thankfully, Stefanie decided to go with one that came with rich patterns to prevent it from looking too one-dimensional. True to her aesthetics of simplicity, Stef paired it with simple black heeled pumps and a casually tousled ‘do. We can get down with that.

Want to obtain that enviable flawless, smooth, porcelain mien that South Koreans are known to have? Take a leaf from actress Shin Se Kyung, who is turning 39 this month but easily looks a decade younger. Like her, wear oversized sunnies when you’re out and about to shield your peepers from harmful sun rays and to prevent squinting as well. In case you didn’t know, squinting encourages the development of crow’s feet and wrinkles, which we definitely do not want. Because large sunnies are so OTT, you can keep the rest of your outfit muted, like Se Kyung. She still looks like a star, despite a simple blouse and maxi skirt combo.
