Ever since Daniel Lee sent models down the runway with square toe shoes during his debut for Bottega Veneta 2019 Fall/Winter 2019 collection, the fashion world has been enamoured with it since.
The blocky counterpart added a breath of fresh air to the sea of pointed silhouettes and has since evolved to encompass other shoe styles from flats to boots. Styling-wise, this silhouette is no different from what you have worn before. Ahead, we curated our favourite square toe designs to get you one foot into the trend.
We can’t do a curation of square toe shoes without including Bottega Veneta. Since its inception, Lee has created other designs ranging from strappy sandals to mules and flats. One of our favourites is this playful quilted leather design that has been all the rage among the street style influencers.
Much like the LBD or the perennial blazer, black strappy sandals are another essential you need to have in your wardrobe. Its versatile yet sexy silhouette means you can dress it up for work with a pantsuit or with a sundress for the weekends.
Play-mei is a Singaporean label that prides itself on unique designs made with hand-beading and embroidery. These block heels are (no surprise there) made with the same techniques featuring hand-sewn black beads and sequins.
If Bottega Veneta is currently an aspirational brand you’re working hard towards, opt for Zara first. The label has dropped a series of square toe designs that are eerily similar to Lee’s creations, including these thong slippers-inspired heels.
If strappy sandals seem like too much for a conservative workplace, then these white block heels will definitely be a hit at the office. Complement the clean lines with a white dress or use it as an accent piece against an all-black outfit.
Another work-friendly number, nude pumps can help to make your legs look longer as it creates a lengthening illusion. This design is also accented with Roger Vivier’s signature buckle that complements the square toe.
Created in collaboration with Deveaux, these leather mules would be a hit among those who fancy a vintage, boho vibe. These might not be dressy enough for work, but they will work great with a denim jumpsuit or a prairie dress for the weekends.
Dad sneakers, meet chunky loafers. We’re obsessed with Eytys’ interpretation of the classic dressy loafers with its shiny patent-leather finish. A crisp shirt and high-waisted trousers are all you need to complete a geek chic ensemble.
Versace logo-embellished holographic printed PVC mules, US$753.64 (S$1,069.44) from Net-a-Porter
This pair of mules are made with Versace’s iconic jungle print that Jennifer Lopez made famous at the 2000 Grammy Awards. We also love the holographic effect and transparent heels that really make it a contemporary design.
If you’re bored of the usual solid colour offerings, then spice things up with these python-effect leather mules from Wandler. Go bold by finishing with clothing with animal prints or play it subtle with a jumpsuit.
