It’s been quite the week for ONCEs. Within the span of just three days, two TWICE members announced that they were leaving their longtime agency, JYP Entertainment.
Jeongyeon was the first to share the news on Aug 10, making her the first member of TWICE to officially leave JYP. The 29-year-old has since joined South Korean agency Varo Entertainment, which also manages her sister, actress Gong Seung-yeon, Perfect Crown actor Byeon Woo-seok and Descendants of the Sun star Yeo Jin-goo.
Jeongyeon reassures fans she’s staying with TWICE
In a heartfelt letter posted on Instagram, Jeongyeon described JYP as her “second home” and admitted that leaving somewhere she had been since her teenage years initially felt daunting.
But for fans worried about what her departure means for the group, she had one important reassurance: she’s still very much part of TWICE.
“The one thing I truly want to tell ONCE is that even though I am moving on to a new chapter to take on new challenges, TWICE, the center of my life, will remain unchanged,” she wrote, adding that standing before fans as a member of TWICE would always be her “very first priority”.
Chaeyoung follows three days later
Just three days later, on Aug 13, Chaeyoung announced that she too was leaving JYP after 14 years with the agency.
The 27-year-old shared that she was excited to begin a new chapter with LIL FANTASY, which she described as “a world where I can explore and build my music”.
The name isn’t entirely new. Chaeyoung released her debut solo album, LIL FANTASY vol.1, in September 2025, giving fans a taste of her musical identity outside of TWICE.
And just like Jeongyeon, Chaeyoung made one thing very clear: leaving JYP doesn’t mean leaving the group.
“Please know that nothing changes with TWICE,” she wrote. “Everything I’ve received is thanks to my time as TWICE, which will always be my roots.”
What about the rest of TWICE?
With Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung now pursuing their individual careers outside JYP, the status of the remaining seven members’ solo contracts – Nayeon, Momo, Sana, Jihyo, Mina, Dahyun and Tzuyu – has yet to be revealed.
For now though, there’s no need for ONCEs to panic. Both Jeongyeon and Chaeyoung have been explicit about their commitment to TWICE, suggesting that this is less about saying goodbye to the group and more about figuring out what the next stage of their individual careers looks like.
After more than a decade together, TWICE may simply be entering a new era, one where the members can branch out on their own while still coming back together as nine.
