Perfect Crown is now the most-watched Korean series on Disney+ — here’s why it’s worth the hype
Here’s why the Disney+ hit, Perfect Crown, has us completely hooked

There are weeks where you open a streaming app, scroll for twenty minutes, and end up rewatching something you’ve already seen. And then there are the rare times something new actually stops you mid-scroll. Perfect Crown was that for us.
Released on April 10, the romantic comedy became the most-watched Korean series globally on Disney+ within just five days, and honestly, after the first episode, it’s not hard to understand why.
On paper, it sounds like something you’ve seen before. A royal power struggle, a strategic marriage, two people who aren’t supposed to fall for each other slowly doing exactly that. But Perfect Crown has a twist that genuinely makes it feel fresh: this isn’t a historical drama. It’s set in a present-day Korea where a royal family still reigns. And the result is this wonderfully odd collision of tradition and modern life that you don’t quite realise you needed until you’re watching it. The royals text each other, alliances are brokered over phone calls, and palace politics meet the 24-hour news cycle.
Another reason to watch is the drama’s star-studded cast. For instance, IU who plays Song Huiju – and she is, in a word, magnetic.
Her character is the heiress of a powerful conglomerate, which is far from your typical romantic lead waiting to be swept off her feet. She’s sharp, self-possessed, and completely unbothered by people who underestimate her. The kind of female character you find yourself genuinely rooting for, not just watching.
Byeon Woo-seok’s Grand Prince I-AN, meanwhile, is doing a lot more than his soft-spoken first impression suggests.
There’s a quiet intensity to him that sneaks up on you, and when the two of them share a scene, the tension is the kind that makes you sit up a little straighter. What’s nice is that the show doesn’t rush it. Their dynamic builds slowly, earning each moment rather than fast-tracking to the obvious, which makes every small shift in their relationship feel like it actually means something. It also helps that their off-screen warmth — visible through behind-the-scenes clips and promotional content on both their Instagrams — bleeds effortlessly into their on-screen chemistry.
And while we’re here, Huiju’s wardrobe. If you have even a passing interest in fashion, prepare to take notes. Her power dressing throughout the series is the kind that makes you want to rethink your entire wardrobe. It’s impeccably tailored, quietly luxurious, and endlessly inspiring for anyone who likes their office looks to mean business.
Perfect Crown is technically designed for a slow weekly watch. But fair warning, it’s the kind of series you’ll tell yourself you’re just going to dip into, and then suddenly it’s 1am and you’re three episodes deeper than you planned. If you’ve been waiting for a sign to start it, consider this yours.
