Changi Airport's newest terminal, T4, which opened last week on Oct 31, may be the smallest terminal but it is big on its interactive features as we found out yesterday (Nov 7) on a media tour of the newly minted airport.

The 225,000 sq m terminal has a capacity for 16 million passengers at a time. Nine airlines - the Air Asia Group (four airlines), Cathay Pacific, Cebu Pacific, Korean Air, Spring Airlines and Vietnam Airlines - are currently operating at T4 and more airlines are currently in talks with the Changi Airport Group to join the new terminal.

Designed with a heritage theme in mind, a petal motif inspired by an orchid petal is applied to many locations within the terminal such as carpets and dustbins. T4 is also equipped with interactive zones for all ages to enjoy while waiting for their flight.

Here's the best part: Most of them are free and we let you in on  eight fun things you can do at T4 without paying a single cent. Read on to find out more.

Good news for whiskey lovers because T4’s DFS has their very own Whiskey House too! Similarly to Terminal 2’s Whiskey House, guests can enjoy complimentary tasting of over 130 different kinds of whiskey.

The staff are trained to design individual experiences based on flavour profiles and help you with a more seamless and interactive experience while picking out your favourite whiskey.

Immersive Wall

5/10

Whenever security screenings come into mind, we think of waiting in long queues with nothing to do. Changi Airport aims to change that perception with their Immersive Wall right above the centralised security screening area just past immigration.

It showcases Singapore's skyline and ASEAN landmarks, and runs for 50 min each time. The imagery on the screen is supposed to keep you entertained you while you go through mandatory security screening. While we are not sure if it will be entirely entertaining and we hope we don't have to be waiting a whole 50 min, the interactive screen is certainly mesmerising to say the least - and we don't think any other airport in the world gives that much thought to 'bored' travellers. So great effort, Changi Airport!

Don’t worry tech enthusiasts, Changi Airport didn’t forget about you. Multi-brand electronics concession, E-Gadget, provides passengers with the opportunity to test-fly drones within the safety of a netted area. How cool is that?

Steel in Bloom Garden

7/10

If Changi Airport does anything best, it would be their gardens. The Steel in Bloom Garden features a six metre-tall steel structure, air plants and a favourite amongst the young and old - the koi pond. If you’re early for your flight, head to the garden to take some insta-worthy shots or just to enjoy the garden.

A Peranakan Love Story

8/10

If you have time to spare prior to your flight, take a seat in front of the row of shophouses and watch a six-minute cultural mini-theatre show on the LED screen, Peranakan Love Story.

It tells a romantic tale of two young adults set in Singapore in the 1930s and is a collaboration with local composer and songwriter, Dick Lee. Keep your eyes peeled for appearances from local artistes like Benjamin Kheng and Koh Chieng Mun.

Pose with Instagrammable structures

9/10

Located at the Central Galleria is a kinetic installation, Petalclouds, which imitates the movement of clouds floating in the sky. Its symmetrical shape and collective choreography result in an interactive art piece that can be seen from both the public and transit areas of the terminal. With its non-stop motion, you can use the boomerang function in Instagram to jazz up your posts.

Strike your best pose in your OOTD with artworks housed around Terminal 4. Pretend to be part of the Travelling Family art installation, or let your imagination run away with Les Oiseaux (The Birds). Set amid beautiful backdrops, these are the perfect sculptures to up your Insta-game.

Changi Airport Terminal 4 children’s playground

10/10

Great fun for both children and adults, this playground has epic slides that span across two levels and a climbing net structure at its centre. Known as the Chandelier, this double helix structure is not for those who are scared of heights. This rope playground is five-storey high and comprises climbing nets and fireman poles. The good news: It’s free entry and open 24 hours so you can swing like Tarzan and Jane anytime of the day.
