Spanning more than a million sq ft, the family-friendly VivoCity is a sprawling, 21-football-fields-sized compound of retail stores, restaurants (its size also means there is a wide variety), and lifestyle facilities (including a cinema, an arcade, and a playground) - topped off with a wading pool the size of four Olympic swimming pools and an amphitheatre on the Sky Park on level three. Which also has a sea view.
In essence, it’s not a place that really needs any arm-twisting to go, but some extra reasons to visit won’t hurt: on top of its recent additions of new, first-time-in-Singapore brands like French lingerie label 6ixty8ight, Taiwanese popstar Jay Chou’s sandwich joint Liang Sandwich Bar, and halal Chinese-Muslim restaurant chain Western Mahua, the megamall has also opened a new 32,000 sq ft retail extension at basement one, which houses 10 new stores, including Singapore’s first New Era store, Fila, Nike and Adidas for sportswear and athleisure fans, and a Xiaomi store.

Here’s a tip: the best time to visit now is after 5pm on weekdays, because from now until 10 August, the extension will run an “Active Hours” promotion on weekdays evenings from 5pm onwards, offering discounts of up to 20 per cent off in-store collections. And from now until 12 August, you can also redeem a $10 Mapletree voucher with a minimum of $100 spent on the same day (across maximum three receipts) at the new B1 shops. Limited to first 100 shoppers on weekdays and first 200 shoppers on weekends and public holidays.
For a good cause, the mall has also partnered with non-profit enterprise Soles4Souls, which distributes shoes and clothing around the world. To contribute, donate your gently-worn shoes at various collection points around the mall or at participating stores where you can enjoy exclusive discounts upon donating.
