All the Star Awards 2025 nominees you need to know—and why Emerald Hill isn’t on the list

2025 is shaping up to be a big year for many, especially in the entertainment industry in Singapore. Take, for instance, the annual Star Awards ceremony, which marks its 30th anniversary this year. Bigger and better than ever, Mediacorp will be bringing back its awards ceremony to its homeground at The Theatre at Mediacorp on July 6, and fans can expect an exciting lineup of their favourite local stars as well as regional icons who will be gracing the momentous event.

That being said, this year’s awards ceremony will be giving out 18 awards for each category, which is a significant increase from the Star Awards in the 90s, when eight awards were given out. While many are expecting the drama series, Emerald Hill, to dominate the awards, the show was not nominated as the show’s release date falls outside the official eligibility period (Jan 1 2024 - Dec 31 2024) for this year’s awards and will only be running next year.

Some of the other things to note about this year’s awards ceremony are the eligibility criteria for the “Top 10 Most Popular Male/Female Artiste” awards – dedicated to artistes with more than five years of experience – have been refined in accordance with evolving industry trends and to better reflect the dynamic relationship between artistry and popularity. For the first time, artistes who are nominees for any Performance Award will automatically qualify to run for the Popularity Award in the same year.

Meanwhile, while the “Most Popular Rising Star” award remains dedicated to artistes with five years or less of experience, artistes who received the award three times will be automatically elevated to the “Top 10 Most Popular Artiste” category.

Additionally, voters who cast their vote for the BYD Favourite Male & Female Character categories will also stand a chance to win a BYD Sealion 7 worth $94,888 — just by casting their vote. Voting for this category will run from 26 May to 15 June, and each voter is entitled to one vote per account, per award category, per day.
