Solo date ideas in Singapore for your next self-care day
When life gets overwhelming, it’s time to slow down and put yourself first
By Mandy Tan -
It’s easy to let Singapore’s hustle and bustle get the best of us. Between career burnout, relationship woes, and family or friendship drama, it can feel like there’s barely any time to slow down. Before you know it, the city’s fast-paced lifestyle has you running on autopilot.
And that’s when you know it’s time to take a breather. When was the last time you genuinely enjoyed your own company, or simply stopped for a moment to do something you used to love?
To all the independent ladies: consider this your sign to take a day off for yourself. Slow down and just breathe.
If you’re not sure where to start, fret not — we’ve rounded up seven solo date ideas for your next self-care day. Because sometimes, the best company you can have is yourself.
Browse through a bookstore
Sure, there’s something fun about pretending to be mysterious in a bookstore and hoping to bump into the person of your dreams. But beyond all the romanticising, there’s something genuinely fulfilling about getting lost in a good book and letting your imagination run wild.
Skip the chains and go indie. Kinokuniya is great, but a solo day out is the perfect excuse to hunt for hidden gems in a smaller shop. Start at Littered with Books, where the shelves are carefully curated across genres and the comfy corners invite you to settle in with a find. Then head to nearby BookBar, where you can order a coffee and dive into your pick, with a focus on local Singaporean and Asian literature.
Littered with Books: Open Monday to Friday 12-8pm, Saturday & Sunday 11am-8pm.
20 Duxton Road, Singapore 089486
BookBar: Open Monday to Thursday 9.30am-7pm, Friday & Saturday 9.30am-10pm, Sunday 9.30am-6pm.
57 Duxton Rd, Singapore 089521
Visit a museum or art exhibit
There’s something innately calming about admiring and taking in art on your own, with no one to rush you or interrupt your train of thought. With just you and the artwork in front of you, allow your thoughts to wander and develop. Who knows? You might even learn something new about yourself through the way you interpret different pieces of art.
For something that gets your brain cogs turning, the Singapore Art Museum rotates through fresh exhibitions and programmes that invite you to look twice and think a little deeper. If you’d rather simply wander, the National Gallery is lovely for a stroll through its halls, no agenda needed. And if you want a bit of science alongside your art, the ArtScience Museum has both facts with finesse.
Singapore Art Museum: Open daily 10am to 7pm.
39 Keppel Rd, #01-02, Singapore 089065
National Gallery: Open daily 10am to 7pm.

Explore a new neighbourhood
“There’s nothing to do in Singapore.” Sound familiar? But when was the last time you explored more than ten neighbourhoods beyond your own, or hopped on a bus with no destination and got off at a random stop? There’s so much more to this city than yoghurt in Somerset or a cup of milk tea. From the colourful shophouses of Joo Chiat to the trendy cafes of New Bahru, there’s plenty to discover once you step outside the usual spots. So pick a neighbourhood, hop on a bus, and see where the day takes you.
Head to New Bahru for a chic cafe break at PPP Coffee or Dearborn Breakfast Club, or make your way to Joo Chiat and get hands-on at Side Quest Art Studio, where you can paint coasters or figurines. Afterwards, wander the nearby streets for pilates studios and cafes to round off the day.
Watch a movie alone
Yay, no sharing your popcorn and no small talk during the movie! Get whatever snacks you want, sit wherever you like, and enjoy the film without a single interruption. Just you, your favourite snacks, and a fully immersive cinematic experience.
If chain cinemas aren’t your thing, independent cinema Filmhouse screens indie films across all genres every other day. Settle into a cosy theatre with a popcorn bucket to yourself, and you’ve got the perfect solo evening.
Filmhouse: Open Tuesday to Friday 4pm-8.30pm, Saturday & Sunday 1pm-8.30pm. Closed on Monday.
6001 Beach Rd, #05-00, Singapore 199589
Take a hike
Soak in the scenery, slow down after a busy week, and give your thoughts room to wander. If you need some vitamin D and a breath of fresh air, Singapore has plenty of nature trails that are perfect for going solo.
For an easy stroll, try the Mandai Walk, where you can reconnect with nature and maybe even spot a giraffe along the way. If you’re after something more adventurous, the good old Rail Corridor hike is hard to beat, with a 24km stretch to take on at your own pace.
And if the walk with your thoughts gets a little dull halfway through, pop on an audiobook or podcast and enjoy some quality time away from your usual screen time.
Solo Picnic
Pack a picnic mat and claim a spot at your nearest beach, park, or reservoir for a day of quiet, creative time outdoors. Whether you want to catch up on rest or work on a personal project, bring along whatever brings you joy: a book, your crochet tools, a squishy to fidget with, painting materials, or anything else you’ve been meaning to get to. Don’t forget sunscreen and a bottle of water, and if you stay long enough, you might even catch the sunset.
For a postcard-worthy view, lay out your blanket at Marina Barrage and watch the sky change colour over the water. Or keep it simple and stroll through your nearest park, taking in the greenery and the people around you, and savour the slow life.
Take a class
Pilates, baking, or pottery? Whatever your passion, sign up for a class or workshop and let the stress melt away. It never hurts to be around others, learn from a professional, and pick up new skills that make life feel exciting again. You might even discover a new hobby along the way.
If you’re craving a good sweat, try out the trending hot mat pilates at Studio Glaze. If you’d rather slow down, settle in at Common Touch for a pottery class that doubles as a relaxing three-hour art jam.
