Last weekend, the National Stadium was buzzing with adrenaline as the AIA HYROX Singapore race returned — a high-octane hybrid of endurance running and functional workout stations that draws a global crowd of elite athletes, fitness enthusiasts and celebrity competitors alike.

And honestly, between the sled pushes, lunges and wall balls — and all those washboard abs and broad shoulders on display — it was a cardio workout even if you were just watching.

Among the familiar faces pushing through the grind were Choi Min-ho, the SHINee member known for his athletic build and competitive streak, and Hong Beom-seok, the firefighter-turned-athlete and breakout star of Physical: 100. Also spotted was fellow Physical: 100 alum Amotti.

First-time HYROX participant Jay Park — the K-pop rapper, singer and entrepreneur — also took on the challenge, competing in the men’s doubles category with trainer Eddy Park Chan So, finishing in 1 hour, 8 minutes and 52 seconds, well within the 1 hour 30 to 1 hour 35 range.

Here’s what we know about Jay’s HYROX partner.

Founder of Gymtown

Gymtown is a gym chain with locations across Seoul, including Gangnam and Seongsu. Founded six years ago, it has built a reputation for its structured training programmes, which typically combine strength conditioning, functional training and performance-focused sessions designed to build endurance, power and overall athletic fitness.

Nike ties

The 35-year-old also works closely with sportswear giant Nike, taking part in various training initiatives and brand-led fitness programmes such as the Nike Training Network Summit.

Career journey

He started out as a trainer, spent time working in an office role, and ultimately found his way back to fitness — carrying with him a disciplined mindset built through military service and early coaching experience.

Six-day training habit

He has trained consistently since his younger years, often working out up to six days a week even while working.

Wellness philosophy

He believes wellness is about embracing continuous challenges with a positive mindset and moving forward step by step. Rather than avoiding stress, he views challenges as tasks to work through, with discipline and consistency helping to shape better outcomes. He also believes that staying physically active is key to supporting a healthier body, a positive outlook and a more resilient mind.
