It can be difficult to find a foundation that can give you flawless coverage when you have skin with signs of ageing like fine lines, wrinkles, dull, tired skin tone, pigmentation spots, enlarged pores and dryness.

In a nutshell, foundation is a cosmetic that is applied on the face to cover up flaws and imperfections and even out your skin. Unfortunately for mature skin with visible signs of ageing, this layer of foundation can emphasise more than conceal depending on the foundations’ ingredients, consistency, texture, and so on.

However, we are here to help. We have rounded up the best foundations that work best on mature skin and can knock years off the face.

13 anti-ageing foundations that will make you look younger
Clinique Even Better™ Makeup Foundation SPF 15/PA++, $58, from Sephora

The more you use this foundation, the better your skin will look. Clinique’s Even Better™ Makeup Foundation contains vitamin C and antioxidants that not only conceal discolourations, but also reduce dark spots and even out skin tone in 4-6 weeks, leaving you with a clearer and brighter complexion.

The smooth and creamy formula blends easily and gives skin a natural finish. Resistant to sweat, water and humidity, the foundation does not clog pores, and also comes with SPF 15 to protect the skin from further discolouration.

La Mer The Soft Fluid Long Wear Foundation SPF 20, $200, available from Sephora
image

Get luminous and flawless skin with this luxurious foundation. The natural-looking and buildable formula may feel weightless on the skin, but its high coverage can even out the complexion and conceal dark spots and blemishes effectively.

Formulated without parabens, phthalates and sulfates, this foundation has serious staying power even in humid conditions. It is also infused with the brand’s signature Miracle Broth™ that is at the heart of every La Mer product, and is famous for its healing properties that nourish and revitalise the skin.

Sulwhasoo Perfecting Cushion EX SPF 50+/PA+++ Foundation, $80, available at Sephora

Want to perk up dull skin? This long-lasting lightweight foundation contains red pine extract from the brand’s anti-ageing skincare line Timetreasure to make skin firmer, and plum blossom extract with anti-oxidising properties to rejuvenate the skin.

The foundation’s moisturising Schizophyllum commune components also help to keep skin comfortable and hydrated, and its Radiance Pearl Power Complex brightens the complexion and gives it a translucent glow throughout the day.

YSL Beauty Youth Liberator Serum De Teint, $109, from YSL Beauté stores and counters

A foundation that promises to tackle skin issues like loss of firmness, wrinkles, uneven texture and dullness needs supercharged ingredients, and this liquid foundation has what it takes.

A patented skincare complex called Glycanactif, which is borrowed from the brand’s Forever Youth Liberator anti-ageing skincare range, helps the foundation smooth skin’s texture, seamlessly fill in fines lines and wrinkles and infuse the dermis with much-needed hydration so skin becomes more supple and firm and looks more radiant and smooth to boot.

Giorgio Armani Designer Lift Foundation, $110, from Giorgio Armani counters

Designed to subtly balance between coverage and skin radiance, this is one foundation that glides on and sits like a second skin thanks to its lightweight, silky cream texture.

The formula contains a blend of lightweight oils to smooth the skin and blur away colour and texture irregularities so skin still looks like skin, just years younger and with a touchably smooth finish. It delivers on its 12-hour moisture promise, even for dry skin types and also boasts SPF20 sun protection.

Charlotte Tilbury Magic Foundation, $76 (Available in 20 shades), from Sephora
image

A foundation that is truly capable of transforming the skin with a long-lasting formula coupled with a natural, skin-like finish. Even when layered on for higher coverage, skin still looks bare up close, only smoother and more flawless.

The built-in skincare ingredients include a concentrated mushroom extract, vitamin C and hyaluronic acid spheres to hydrate, smooth and plump the skin so it looks more youthful and supple and glows with natural radiance.

PAT MCGRATH LABS Skin Fetish: Sublime Perfection Foundation, $104, from Sephora
image

This cult brand’s foundation works like a photo filter for your face, but in real life. The soft focus pigments blur out fine lines and uneven skin tone without being too overkill.

Skincare-wise, it has the vita-serum complex to hydrate and strengthen skin against signs of ageing. One light layer and you get sheer coverage and if you want to look even more airbrushed, top it off with another light layer on areas where you need a little extra. The best part? The formula lasts well on the skin, even in hot, humid Singapore.

37 ACTIVES High Performance Anti-Aging Treatment Foundation, USD$173.05 from Net-a-porter
image

Use this versatile fluid foundation as a spot concealer just on pigmentation spots or to cover uneven skin tone where you need it, or in a light layer as a foundation over the entire face.

As a spot concealer it has impressive coverage, even camouflaging dark pigmentation patches and freckles seamlessly. It boasts over 30 anti-aging actives to treat the skin including powerful antioxidants like resveratrol, caffeine and ginkgo biloba leaf, pomegranate and green tea extracts.

La Prairie Skin Caviar Powder Foundation, $345, from La Prairie counters
image

You can expect exceptional skincare ingredients from this prestigious beauty brand’s foundation. What’s more, this is the first foundation to contain the brand’s exclusive Caviar Extract, which restores and revitalises skin from the inside.

It helps to refine skin’s texture, smooth fine lines and also minimises pores. The foundation’s powder texture is ultra fine and feels silky to the touch, plus it doesn’t ever feel dry or look cakey or powdery on the skin. Instead, skin feels comfortable and hydrated even after long hours of wear.

THREE Complete Harmony Foundation, $95, from THREE stores
image

What a foundation for mature skin really needs is a stretchable finish as older skin tends to sag more and have looser texture, therefore it is subjected to more movement when facial expressions come into play.

This foundation was designed to have that stretchability so it maintains a flawless veneer and fine lines don’t show up – Great for more expressive faces with more expression lines. What’s more, the formula is very moisturising making it a good choice for normal to dry skin types and it doesn’t contain parabens, synthetic perfumes, organic dyes, animal-derived ingredients, and mineral oils.

Shiseido Future Solution LX Total Radiance Foundation E, $122 for 30ml, from all Shiseido stores and counters
image

If you love skincare with luxurious textures, you’ll love this lightweight cream foundation. Not surprisingly, this makeup is infused with the brand’s patented skincare ingredients to moisturise, brighten the complexion and minimise all signs of ageing.

It spreads easily onto skin like a soft cream feels weightless and yet makes the complexion look clear and luminous.

Chanel Lift Lumière Firming and Smoothing Fluid Makeup SPF15
image

Apply a layer of this fluid foundation on the skin and it instantly gives a smoothing and brightening effect. This is thanks to the brand’s LIFTOPTIC complex, which subtly manipulates light and a mix of different coloured pigments for an immaculate skin finish.

Skin texture is smoothed, fine lines disappear and the skin tone looks spotless with natural, skin-like glow.

DIOR PRESTIGE Le Cushion Teint De Rose, $150, from all Dior Beauty stores and counters
image

The rose is an ingredient found in many Dior skincare and fragrance products and it has found its way into the brand’s makeup too, including this compact cushion foundation.

Pigments from the rose give this makeup a rosy hues that looks natural on the skin, plus extracts from the rose help to plump up, hydrate and nourish the skin. A bonus we love is that this foundation also has a high, broad spectrum SPF50/PA+++ so we can safely skip our sunblock step.
