From #PressforProgress to #BalanceforBetter, gender equality remains at the forefront of the International Women’s Day movement.

But what does it mean to be truly equal? Aside from possessing equal rights, it is also the recognition of contributions made by women in various fields.

In line with the 2019 IWD initiative aimed at gender equality, greater awareness of discrimination and celebration of women’s achievements, IIX Foundation, a global organisation that aims to build a more inclusive world as the foundation for sustainable peace, launched the inaugural SHE IS MORE global youth art competition and exhibition.

solshare

Running from Feb 28 to April 9, the event showcases the accomplishments of up to 150 women in various roles – mothers, caretakers, entrepreneurs, business leaders, teachers, community-builders and more. It aims to remove labels and limitations by valuing and empowering the women who are contributing to sustainable peace and inclusive growth from sectors ranging from finance to art, social enterprises to business organisations.

Another initiative is an art contest where artists of any gender between the ages of 10 to 18 can also take part in the SHE IS MORE Youth Art Competition and submit an individual piece of art that honours the spirit of women, using this platform to advocate for a greater inclusion and equality.

ATEC Biodigesters

A beneficiary of who receives access to clean energy that produces cleaner air, reducing the time spent on subsistence activities like cooking and collecting firewood.

The global competition will conclude with an opening night celebration on May 9 at the Sundaram Tagore Gallery in Singapore. The winning artwork will be available for public viewing from May 10-11, and be featured as part of IIX Foundation’s year-long 10th anniversary celebration this year. The winner also will receive an invaluable one-on-one art mentorship with a Senior Lecturer from the McNally School of Fine Arts at Lasalle.

Tickets to the SHE IS MORE Exhibition Opening Night are available for online purchase from Mar 7 at www.iixglobal.com/SheIsMore. Proceeds from the sale of selected artwork and opening night tickets will be channeled to the IIX Foundation to support its cause.
