AWARE is turning 35 and they’re commemorating the occasion with AWAREFest 2020: a five-day virtual festival featuring a series of workshops, panel discussions and interactive programmes. The local women’s rights and gender equality advocacy group has been offering women (and men) in Singapore support through a helpline, sexual assault care centre, legal clinic, and workplace harassment and discrimination advisory, among other things.

Programmes to check out at the event include The Great Debate: Is Love or Rage a Better Fuel for Injustice? (where six activists and thinkers explore activism and accountability in the cancel culture and movements such as #MeToo and Black Lives Matter); Women in Politics: The Personal is Political (four women in politics will be sharing their views on our changing national landscape); and Social Media Activism: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (a discussion on the the strengths and limitations of social media as a means to social justice).

The festival will take place from November 25 to 29 2020 and tickets can be purchased online. All proceeds go to the AWARE NextGen Fund, which supports the next generation of change makers in amplifying women’s voices at all levels of society.
