It’s easy to say we want A, B and C in our career but then do nothing to make it happen. It’s time to take action and get your dream career in 2017. Here are four steps to get you there.

How to reach your career goals in singapore DECOR

MAKE A PLAN
As with any other goal in life, start by drafting a plan. List all the goals you’re aiming for and how you’re going to get there. And, most importantly, give yourself a time frame too. There’s no point saying you want to achieve something in the next year but be vague about when you’re going to make it happen. Make sure you then check back every few weeks or so, to see if you’re on schedule for these goals to be achieved.

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH!
Once you know what exactly you want to achieve, get precise information as to how you’re going to get it. Spend time online researching courses you could enrol in to upgrade your skills or make yourself more relevant to the job you have in mind. Check LinkedIn often and find out more about people in your industry who have done well and how they got there. If there are associations for the industry that you work in, get in touch with them and see if they can guide you in any way.

GET SOME HELP
It’s always easier to achieve a goal if you share it so find someone who will help you. The best way is to look for someone in your industry who can serve as your mentor and guide you to achieve your goals. They’ll know the ins and outs of the scene and also what you should and shouldn’t do to get ahead, so that will work in your favour. But if this isn’t possible, fret not, just find someone who is ambitious and has done well in their career. Success breeds success so advice from almost any successful person is priceless.

WORK ON IT
Now it’s time to actually do something. Spruce up your resume and get active on LinkedIn. Send in those job applications and write in to companies that you wish to work for (don’t wait for them to advertise). Spread the word among friends and colleagues you trust and connect with anyone on LinkedIn who can help you too. If you’re not proactive, you’re not going to get it, so start working!
