Famished after a sweat session and eager to refuel? You might want to rethink your post-workout treat. Here are 5 things you should steer clear of.

Nuts

While nuts are high in protein, they’re also high in fat. Be sure to eat them only before your workout. They provide the energy you need to last throughout it.

Fatty meats

Fatty meats like bacon and certain cuts of beef can slow down your metabolism and cause your body’s fat burning abilities to slow down.

Coffee

You might think that the caffeine in coffee can help speed up metabolism but because you’re so dehydrated from your workout, drinking coffee will only cause your body to bloat more.

Alcohol

This has the same effect as coffee. Once you’re done working out, you’ll feel even more dehydrated than usual. Plus, the sugar found in alcoholic beverages tends to slow down the metabolism of your body too.

Oily Foods

This one’s pretty clear. Oily foods slow down your body’s digestion rate rapidly so all that working out you did was practically pointless.
