In the fast-paced digital age, dating apps have become the go-to destination for modern singles searching for love. However, amidst the endless swiping and virtual conversations, it's easy for genuine connections to get lost in the shuffle.
Need some tips? Bumble’s APAC Communications Director Lucille McCart shares some strategies that could help you stand out and find your perfect match.
This can mean verifying your profile (which gives you the blue shield next to your name, indicating to potential matches that your photos match you), and filling out your profile bio to put your best foot forward. People who verified their profile on Bumble got almost 2x more matches then those who didn’t. A strong bio will also do wonders for you, as it is the launchpad for great conversations.
Keep it positive and humorous and you can’t go wrong. Focus on what you are looking for rather than what you aren’t. For example ‘looking for something meaningful’ will be better understood than ‘if you aren’t looking for commitment keep swiping’.
Your photos should be recent and high quality. Your first photo should always be just of you, and avoid filters, wearing sunglasses, or blurry photos. Group photos are good but not too many. Show off your smile, happiness is attractive! Your photo selection will tell a story about your personality, so use this as an opportunity to communicate your interests to your potential matches.
If you love to travel, then photos of you on your most recent trip can be a great conversation starter. Same goes for if you are sporty, arty, or have any unique interests that you can show off through your photo selection.
Our data also shows that people who had more than 3 profile photos got 46% more matches than those who used less than three photos, so make sure you maximise them!
As people are being more mindful in the way they approach dating, it’s more important than ever to make your intentions clear and be transparent about the type of relationship you want to build. On Bumble, people can use the “Date Intentions” Badge to do exactly that on their profiles.
As of March this year, 56% of people on Bumble in Singapore who have used our ‘Dating intentions’ badge say they are looking for a relationship. In fact, “Date Intentions” was one of the most popular Filters used in 2022 for people finding love on Bumble in Singapore.
Connecting over shared interests and values can be a great way to build a strong and healthy relationship. Adding Interest Badges can be an easy and fun way to showcase your personality on a deeper level and connect with someone who has a shared understanding of life values and interests right off the bat.
Of the Singaporeans who added Interest Badges to the Bumble profile in 2022, some of the top interest topics were “Gym,” “Comedy,” “Photography,” “Cafe-hopping,” and “Video Games.” Identifying common interests you share with your match, like photography or gaming, helps create a connection, making it easier to start engaging conversations on Bumble which are more likely to lead to a first date!
It’s easy to put a lot of pressure on yourself when it comes to dating. Remember that at the end of the day, dating should be a fun journey that helps you learn more about yourself and find the relationship that works for you. In Singapore, close to half of Singaporeans (46%) have established more boundaries in the past year.
Overall, those surveyed locally are now more thoughtful and intentional in how they put themselves out there (75%), clearer about their emotional needs and boundaries (68%), and have chosen not to overcommit themselves socially (60%). You can always hit Snooze on Bumble if you ever need to disconnect and come back when you feel refreshed and excited to meet new people again.
Send a message when people are most likely to be online and responsive! From what we’ve seen in previous years, the most popular time to be on Bumble is between 7 pm - 10 pm, especially during the weekdays as people get ready to wind down from the work day and begin to make plans for the weekend.
