If the first thing you do when booking a vacation is to check if a hotel has a gym or – better still –offers fitness classes, then you have to add JW Marriott Hotels and Resorts to your check-in list: All its properties offer state-of-the-art gyms along with a pampering Spa by JW for a post-workout treat. It’s also recently raised the bar with the launch of an on-demand workout video series earlier this month. What’s more, JW Marriott Singapore South Beach will launch a Barre to Bar Brunch, where participants can tone up with a barre class and then indulge in a bubbly brunch with free-flow Taittinger Brut champagne.

Before you dismiss workout videos as a thing of the ’90s, get this: The Behind The Barre series boasts some serious cred, thanks to a partnership with premier American dance company The Joffrey Ballet. This isn’t their first collaboration, either. They previously joined forces on a JW Marriott staff training programme named Poise and Grace, designed to enhance the grace and finesse of employees while they go about their daily routines, so as to offer guests a more refined experience.

So why a video workout series, and why ballet-inspired? It’s part of the hotel brand’s commitment to supporting guests’ well-being by providing them with the tools to maintain a healthy lifestyle, even as they globetrot. Plus, as the brand’s vice-president of Global Brand Management Christy Donato shares: “Guests of JW Marriott are always seeking new and innovative ways to stay active while on the road… (and) our partnership with The Joffrey Ballet provides an elevated fitness experience.”

And elevated it is. The video features two professional dancers demonstrating how to stretch and strengthen using the full-body barre method, set against the gorgeous backdrop of the newly opened JW Marriott Los Cabos Beach Resort & Spa. All exercises are designed so that you can do them in your room – no more excuses for leaving your workout routine at home.

That means, whether you’re checked in for work or play, you don’t have to worry about not being able to fit a workout into your schedule. Start your day with a good stretch, grab a quick one between sightseeing and shopping, or wind down while taking in the view of city lights after a day of activity. If your schedule permits, you can also look forward to regular barre workouts at JW Marriott South Beach as part of the Barre to Bar Brunch, which launches December 10. An instructed barre class at the hotel will be followed by a bubbly brunch at Beach Road Kitchen complete with a delectable buffet spread at Beach Road Kitchen, which includes an expansive seafood room, wood-fired pizzas, a carvery station as well as comfort foods including laksa.

To mark the launch of the video series earlier this month in Asia-Pacific, JW Marriott Singapore South Beach was chosen to pilot Barre to Bar pop-up events on Nov 2 at Ocean Financial Centre, and Ion Orchard on Nov 4 and 5. Guests were invited to savour crafted cocktails and mocktails, then snap fun pictures at the studio-themed GIF photo booth, as they watched JW Marriott Singapore South Beach associates showcasing their moves through a barre routine. If you missed that, more such experiences are scheduled for Beijing and Seoul in 2018 – it’s not too late to book yourself a vacation with an edge at the JW Marriott hotels in those two cities. Alternatively, stay close to home with a relaxing staycation and in-room workouts on demand, or a detoxifying barre workout paired with an indulgent Barre to Bar Brunch without ever having to leave Singapore.
