LEHDPW_472.jpgPurple featured significantly in the wedding – from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the floral decor.

Pearl Yu, 32, and Derek Zhu, 36, celebrated with a travel-themed reception inspired by their long-distance courtship. She tells us:

LEHDPW_736.jpgWitty Mr & Mrs signs added to the festive atmosphere.

LEHDPW_619.jpgNapkins were printed with anecdotes about the couple.

“We come from conventional families, but as he’s Chinese American and I have lived and worked in the US and Europe, we wanted our wedidng to have both traditional and Western elements.

We had our reception at the Capella Resort, Sentosa, for its ambience, which our foreign guests loved.

The travel theme was inspired by our long-distance relationship after meeting in 2009 at the INSEAD Asia campus here.

LEHDPW_482.jpgCelebrating the occasion with loved ones is a must.

LEHDPW_625.jpgThe couple’s travel-themed reception extended to their wedding cake.

Our wedding was relaxed, intimate and fun. The highlight was my father’s speech during dinner. It was very witty with touching anecdotes. Guests couldn’t stop laughing and still quote lines from the speech.

Our closest friends and family flew in from around the world to share our special day. The fact that the solemniser, wedding planner, illustrator, photographers and hairstylists were all good friends made planning and execution more intimate and enjoyable.

LEHDPW_525.jpg“I thought I wouldn’t be able to hold back the tears during the ceremony. What helped? Seeing our favourite people celebrating with us.”

Planning a wedding takes time and energy, so don’t try to take on everything yourself. Many people who love you would be happy to chip in. Just ask.”
