A secret garden-themed wedding at the Swissotel Merchant Court

Last year’s Her World Brides Cover Brides contest winner, Anthea Zhou, 29, married her beau, Vincent Lim, 30, in a secret-garden-themed wedding.

How did you meet?

"We met in secondary school and were both prefects. We got closer after Vincent offered to tuition me in pure physics as I was doing badly in it."

How was your proposal like?

"Vincent popped the question with a handwritten letter at our cute and cosy Airbnb. It was really sweet and funny at the same time!

Later on, he told me that his initial plan had been to propose in a canola field, but all those bright yellow flowers were wilted when we were there (laughs)."

“Lavender Love Florist created such an amazing bouquet with winter flowers which I adore. My favourite was the light pink ranunculus.” - Anthea

A red umbrella is held to symbolically keep negative elements away from the bride.

"Seeing Vincent for the first time that day had me excited, nervous, and surprisingly shy – which is so unlike me! The happiness I felt throughout was so surreal.

We had a secret-garden theme for our wedding lunch. It was a light-hearted affair with 200 guests who had a good time laughing over our comedic pre-wedding video. But there were also plenty of tears when our appreciation video for our parents came on.

It was a roller-coaster ride of emotions. Seeing their reactions was well worth our efforts and those of Alanmitchi Cinematography.

Although we did run a little behind schedule, it was easily resolved. We had an awesome team of groomsmen and bridesmaids who ran our wedding well, and we can’t thank them enough."

Shots from their pre-wedding shoot made up part of the reception decor.

Lush and whimsical floral centrepieces added soft romanticism to the banquet setting.

Guests were asked to share their advice on marriage in a handmade booklet.

The reception area was jazzed up with a dreamy fairy-lit backdrop for photo taking.

“I fell in love with my wedding gown because of its back-lace details and how it complemented my body shape." - Anthea
