An ice cream cart & guests' wedding advice - how a Singapore couple made their One Farrer Hotel unique and memorable

Fion Ye, 26, analyst, and Tay Xiu Long, 29, third-gen owner of dried food wholesaler Buan Seng Boon Kee, held a ballroom celebration filled with unique events that moved their guests to tears and laughter.

How did you meet?

We met during at our university’s orientation camp, and I asked Fion out after we got closer.

During one of our dates at MacRitchie Reservoir, I held her hand so she wouldn’t fall – and I continued to hold it even when the trail flattened out. She didn’t let go, so I took it as a sealed deal!

What was your proposal like?

We got together at MacRitchie Reservoir, so I decided to propose there. I wanted to surprise Fion, so I told her that we were meeting our friends there for another friend’s proposal.

Unfortunately, she found out about my plan!

Thankfully, the proposal video I prepared touched her enough to make up for the spoilt surprise.

Share with us your wedding theme and celebration!

To keep our guests entertained during the cocktail reception, we had a photo booth and a traditional ice-cream cart that served old-fashioned attap chee ice cream.

It was a delight to see so many of our guests enjoying this touch of nostalgia.

The couple were both in Rico-A-Mona.

“During our solemnisation, our Justice of the Peace asked us to share our promises to each other.

It was at that moment, when we were looking at each other, stumbling over our incoherent but heartfelt words, that we knew we made the right decision to marry each other.”

What were some of the highlights?

Both Fion and I aren’t the most eloquent, so instead of giving a speech, we played a video compilation of pictures and memories from over the years that was accompanied by our recorded narration.

It was our way of expressing our gratitude to our family and close friends.

The gorgeous ballroom of One Farrer Hotel.

There was also an interview segment where our wedding emcees went around asking our guests for their wedding advice. Many funny moments ensued.

The responses were hilarious, though some were not entirely appropriate!
