It was a secret garden as the couple married amid pastel blooms.

“Darren and I met and exchanged numbers at a mutual friend’s birthday bash. We kept in touch for years but started dating when I returned from my studies in Australia.

Pink and blue were the order of the day, as seen in the floral centrepieces and cake decoration.

Sophia’s cousin was flower girl, while Darren’s nephew served as page boy.

For our wedding, we spared no expense with the flowers – it was a theme in both our celebrations. We love flowers, and it paid off. We had a beautiful outdoor solemnisation at Au Petit Salut. The restaurant’s French charm and our created picturesque garden with hydrangeas in all shades of pink and blue made the occasion more surreal. We married under a custom-made flower dome with a happy, whimsical feel in the air.

After our solemnisation, we bonded over champagne and a delectable Western spread with our 60 guests.

In honour of the bride, purple, which is her favourite colour, appeared in almost every decoration in the ballroom.

We had a grand celebration with 900 guests eight months later at Shangri-La’s Island Ballroom. Purple and silver was the colour theme. The decor was amazing and gorgeous!

Our planner and florist from Spellbound Weddings outdid themselves. There were flowers, a customised giant flower tree, purple petals on the floor, a lovely carousel (with ponies!) for guests to hang their well wishes on, and more flowers! The feel was rich and lush – and we loved it!

The party was a hit. A 15-piece jazz band added to the posh atmosphere, and serenaded guests with cool tunes as they dined. Darren’s cousin, Kenny, who fronts local band Kenyan, also dedicated a performance to us with covers of classics like Have I Told You Lately.

I felt like a princess in my Vera Wang gowns. I chose a dramatic piece with a mermaid-style poufy “tail” for our first match-in, and a lavender number with floral details for the second. I changed into a beaded dress later in the evening so it would be easier to move around as I mingled with our guests.

Our menu cards and table numbers were specially printed in purple and silver to gel with the theme. We also gave monogrammed purple boxes of specially blended coffee sachets and coffee-coated chocolates as favours.

I’d advise brides to start planning early. You will then have more time to research and gather ideas that make your wedding even better.
