Prince Harry, who is the fifth-in-line to the British throne, and Markle, best known for her role in US TV drama Suits, sat down for an interview with BBC’s Mishal Husain where they were asked about their engagement and courtship that started back in July last year.
“It was just a standard, typical night for us,” said Harry.
“What were we doing? Just roasting chicken ― trying to roast a chicken,” Markle added in response.
“It was a really nice moment, just the two of us, and I think I managed to catch her by surprise,” Harry shared.
Markle confirmed this saying: “It was just an amazing surprise. It was so sweet and natural and very romantic. He got on one knee.”
Harry told Husain that he couldn’t even complete his proposal. "She didn't even let me finish, she said, '”can I say yes? can I say yes?” and then there were hugs.”

The prince had designed the three-stone engagement ring set in yellow gold himself - which features a diamond from Botswana (where they had their first vacation together), as well as two diamonds from his mother, Princess Diana's, personal collection.
"It's beautiful, and he designed it. It's incredible ... obviously not being able to meet his mum, it's so important to me to know that she's a part of this with us," Markle said, turning to Harry as she spoke about the ring.

The couple was introduced by a mutual friend on a blind date and had two dates in London in July last year, followed by a camping trip in Botswana just five weeks later.
Their relationship was officially confirmed in November, and the public was soon anticipating news of their engagement.
"The fact that I fell in love with Meghan so incredibly quickly was confirmation to me that all the stars were aligned, everything was just perfect," Harry said. "This beautiful woman just tripped and fell into my life, I fell into her life."
The Clarence House shared that the wedding is set to take place in Spring 2018. After the nuptials, the royal couple plan to reside in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace.
