Coverbrides finalist Amanda Loo shares her surprise proposal & three wedding celebrations

From an intimate garden party with a beer fest theme to a cosy restaurant dinner in the UK, Coverbrides 2019 finalist Amanda Loo tells us more her wedding celebrations that spans three countries, and her relationship with husband, Robert Andrew.

Earlier in June this year we launched the third edition of Her World Brides Coverbrides and sent our finalists off to The Residence Bintan for a beautiful outdoor photoshoot.

Here we talk to finalist Amanda Loo, 35, a nurse, about her love story with husband Robert Andrew, 32, a chef. The pair has three wedding celebrations planned on March 16, June 22 and November 30 this year.

Where did you meet Robert?
We met at a beer festival here in 2015.

What was your first impression of him?
I thought he was very friendly, very funny and easy to chat with. And he had a childlike smile. We actually Skyped before our first date and he tried to show off his linguistic talent by reciting a vulgar Hokkien phrase. I was with my friends then and they laughed so hard.

What did you do on your first date?
We had lunch at Jamie’s Italian and then headed to The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf. I had the night shift, so I couldn’t stay out late.

What did you find attractive about him?
His ability to make me feel very comfortable in any situation. Also his sense of humour, and his love of food.

What was the most romantic thing he’s done?
We’re actually not very romantic, but he did plan our holiday to the Maldives, where we dined in an underwater restaurant.

What do you love most about him?
That he cares so deeply about those close to him. He is one of the most thoughtful and considerate people I know. He is always patient and supportive of me as well as loyal. I also love his laugh, his smile and that innocent face he makes when he is excited or feeling guilty.

How do you manage your relationship?

We have a great relationship! We may have different personalities and don’t share the same hobbies, but we have the same sense of humour and similar values. Our day always begins with  hugs, kisses, sweet touches and hand holding. Communication is very important. And while we do make time for each other, we also ensure we get our own me-time.

How did he propose?

Robbie proposed in the beautiful back garden of his childhood home in the UK. We were dressed for dinner in town when he suggested taking photos. I love taking pictures so I just kept posing until he said: “Okay. That’s enough, I need to talk to you.” We were standing under an arch when he took out his phone and recited “his speech”. I could see he was nervous because his facial muscles kept twitching. Haha! Then he got down on one knee and popped the question.

What kind of celebration are you having next month?

We planned three “weddings” for our families and friends in the UK, Malaysia and Singapore. To keep within our budget, we kept all as simple as possible. We had an intimate outdoor garden celebration with a beer fest theme here, and a cosy restaurant dinner in the UK. Our final celebration in November is a traditional Chinese banquet in Malaysia.
