How did you meet?

Karsten and I met in the UK while we were studying there nine years ago.

After graduating, I went back home to Chengdu while he returned to Singapore. He casually mentioned that he would come to visit me in Chengdu, and I thought he was kidding.

Until one day, he really did! And the rest is history.

Olivia chose an illusion lace wedding gown from Pronovias which she fell in love with at first glance.

How was your proposal like? 

We were in Japan for a vacation.

On the day of the proposal, Karsten kept rushing me to leave our hotel for Nara Park. He even stopped me from putting on some makeup!

When we were there, he led me to a quiet area and went down on one knee.

Later on, I realised that he had also engaged a photographer to capture the moment.

Share with us your wedding theme and celebration!

We had two wedding events: one in Singapore, and one in China. The ceremony here in Singapore was more intimate and heart-warming, because it was a celebration with our dearest and closest family and friends.

To us, it was a touching and elegant affair. We didn’t just want to commemorate our marriage, but to thank our loved ones for sharing the special day with us as well.

I love Singapore’s tropical landscape, so I wanted our guests to have the feeling of stepping into a garden.

I have to thank our wedding stylist, Med Karlek Inc, for transforming my messy thoughts and ideas into a beautiful mix of florals and foliage, with gold and metallic decorations too!  I loved how everything fell into place.

Any memorable moments? 

Throughout our wedding ceremony at Chijmes, I was very moved, and had a hard time trying to hold back my tears.

When I walked down the aisle with my dad, that was the first time I ever saw him cry.

During our dinner at The Fullerton Hotel, I was also surprised by a touching speech prepared by my father-in-law, as well as a song performance by my friends! 

Vintage props, gold frames and fairy lights glammed up their reception table. 

Guests were able to take home custom bouquets with flowers from the flower bar.

“Our overseas guests really enjoyed the heart-warming ceremony and dinner.

We also prepared a welcome basket that comprised local treats of Bengawan Solo cakes and bak kwa for them.”

How did you feel after the wedding? 

We felt relieved after our celebrations as we were so tired! (laughs).The wedding preparations had been really tiring, as we were in Chengdu most of the time.

Luckily, we had The Wedding Concepteur to help us out. We can’t imagine what would have happened without them.

I fell sick two nights before our actual day. Karsten immediately took me to the clinic in the middle of the night. He also arranged for a massage the night before. Bottom line is, rest is important!

Exhaustion aside, everything turned out well. We would have preferred a smaller and more informal wedding held in a villa.
