From The Straits Times    |

I knew Maggie was the one shortly after we started dating. We met when we were both studying and working in Minneapolis in 2010. A year and a half later, we moved back to Singapore together.

Our proposal happened during our vacation in Boracay. I coordinated everything with a travel agent before we flew over. We went helmet diving on the second day, and that was when I decided to pop the question.

The ring was hidden in a treasure chest, which our diving instructor led us to. When we got to the chest, I took the ring out and went down on one knee. Maggie was so surprised!

Maggie wore a custom mermaid gown, with ivory lace, crystal embellishments and sweep train, by a local designer in Shanghai.

The couple exchanged their vows in front of 60 guests.

We wanted a non-conventional wedding, so we decided on a four-course fine-dining dinner with long tables. We had a rooftop solemnization, followed by an intimate dinner, and a casual after-party with our friends.

Everything happened at the same venue as we didn’t want our guests to move from place to place.

Watching Maggie walk down the aisle was a dream come true. She looked stunning in her gown and I felt like the luckiest man in the world.

We were thankful to our guests who cheered us on and celebrated our union from the aisle during the solemnisation. Holding it at the rooftop venue of 1-Altitude played a big part in the atmosphere too.

Our wedding theme was inspired by the glamour and classiness of the Jazz Age and Old Hollywood.

Instead of a wedding cake, we had a dessert table with black and gold pastries and treats. The table also served as our main backdrop as we didn’t want to have a stage.

Vintage glass decanters, gold frames, pearls and feathers were part of the decor.

It’s essential to enjoy the wedding, rather than stressing over the little details and mishaps,” says Nelson.

A lot of attention was paid to the tablescapes to ensure the enjoyment of their guests. For a personal touch, each guest had a personalised menu and table tag with their name inscribed.

A variety of desserts were served.

Time really flew by that day!

We wished we could have extended it by a couple of hours, so that we could personally catch up with all of our guests, especially those who flew in just for the wedding.
