Gayle Tan and Marcus Wong, held a bilingual ceremony that had guests in stitches.

They were on holiday in 2012 when he popped the question and eventually got married last July. The celebration had fun elements from Nintendo’s Super Mario Bros. Their decor also consisted of a few childhood pictures that had their guests chuckling.

She tells us, “We didn’t want a typical ballroom wedding, so Burkill Hall in Singapore Botanic Gardens with its beautifully restored colonial setting was perfect. It also meant that guests could visit the National Orchid Gardens.

As we had a number of elderly relatives, we asked the Justice of the Peace (JP) to conduct most of the solemnisation in Mandarin, while we said our vows in English. As Marcus isn’t proficient in Mandarin, the JP had to prompt him when it was time for the vows. This was quite comical and had our guests in stitches! Other highlights: The best man’s heartfelt toast, and Marcus’ own emotional speech, which left some family members in tears. I thought it was beautiful. “
