The charming Dominican Republic-born designer, whose sophisticated frocks were commonly seen on Hollywood stars, First Ladies, royalty and fashion insiders, also won the hearts of brides with his feminine, timeless and exquisite gowns. Celeb brides who wore his creations include Jenna Bush, Kate Bosworth, Amal Alamuddin and Katherine Heigl.

In an interview with Bride-To-Be magazine on going gown shopping, he advised brides to choose a dress that speaks to her character. She will then look back years later, and feel that she looked her best. He added that brides-to-be should consider “a gown with a train as it creates a wonderful sense of drama for any bride”.

We spoke to Cecile Chen, the co-founder of Trinity Gallery Singapore and Trinity Bridal Hong Kong, as well as Melissa Tan of The Atelier Bridal on their thoughts of the iconic designer’s passing. Trinity Gallery Singapore is the exclusive retailer for Oscar de la Renta’s bridal collection locally, while The Atelier Bridal used to stock these gowns.

“In his own words, ‘My job as a designer is to make a woman feel her very best.” And in Oscar, brides have never been more beautiful. His bridal designs can be so incredibly detailed that each piece could be considered a work of art. We are so blessed to carry the most exquisite designs from a true artist and visionary. Thank you Mr de la Renta, you will be dearly missed.” – Cecile Chen

“Oscar de la Renta once said, ‘My role as a designer is to make a woman feel her very best’ and he lived up to his role by delivering masterpieces of beauty and elegance to women who wore his gowns. Oscar de la Renta’s gowns are always breathtaking, gorgeous, classy and most importantly, timeless!” – Melissa Tan

With that, we will leave you with a preview of his Spring 2015 collection, which features illusion necklines, off-the-shoulder silhouettes and delicate trims for the romantic bride.

These gowns were first featured in Female Brides Lookbook 9, which is still on newsstands and major bookstores.
