In line with the theme,“Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination”, the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art saw plenty of Renaissance and Baroque-inspired looks (we’re looking at you Blake Lively and Ariana Grande), as well as a handful of gleaming top-to-toe golden ensembles. We zero in on some of the winning looks that would look amazing on the wedding aisle.
Ariana Grande’s wearing a work of art in every sense of the word – her dress is screen-printed with images from Michelangelo’s famous fresco, The Last Judgement, which decorates the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in Vatican City.
And if the billowy tulle number has all the makings of a wedding dress, it’s because the designer is none other than Vera Wang.

Looking like it’s crafted from molten gold, this has got to be one of our favourite looks of the evening, and perfect for brides after an ultra-glam yet modern vibe. According to H&M’s creative advisor Ann-Sofie Johansson in an interview with Glamour magazine, the stunning off-shoulder number paid homage to the Catholic iconography of the sacred heart (often portrayed as emitting flames), as well as the robes that priests and other members of the clergy typically wear.

There’s only one word to describe Irina Shayk’s gilded look: Fierce.
The 32-year-old model attended the Met Ball with partner and actor Bradley Cooper in a spiked Atelier Versace gown with a pleated train fashioned to look like feathers.

Hailey Baldwin (pictured with Shawn Mendes. The paired made their romance official at the Met Ball. Awwww.) juxtaposed her contemporary Tommy Hilfiger Atelier dress with baby pink tresses and delicate blooms in the prettiest way.

We can just picture the Mother of Dragons in this dramatic Dolce & Gabbana number (and of course, nothing less than a gilded crown for Daenerys Stormborn of the House Targaryen) but the combination of OTT blush, red lips and strong brows adds years to her look, in our opinion.

Fact: Blake Lively’s custom Atelier Versace gown took over 600 hours to make.
And we can see why. The bold red silk velvet gown’s encrusted in sparkling jewels, extensive gold embroidery and has a dramatic train that has her looking every part like Renaissance (and red carpet) royalty.
