One of the world’s busiest intersections, the area is home to commercial buildings, larger-than-life billboards, Broadway, modern skyscrapers and buzzing with energy. Often referred to as The Crossroads of the World, the area has been featured in many movies, photographs. It was also featured in the now-iconic picture of an uninhibited sailor kissing a nurse on Victory over Japan (V-J) Day (snapped by photographer and photojournalist) Alfred Eisenstaedt. The drawback about having your shoot here though, is that you have to be mindful that it’s going to be crowded all the time, and your photographer will have to ensure you are not blocked by passers-by.
The 102-storey skyscraper is arguably one of the most iconic buildings in Manhattan, New York City. Made famous by the movie King Kong (1933 and 2005), it is also one of the tallest, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the city. Whether it’s a photo in one of the building’s elevators, at its viewing platform, or even higher (only for the brave), the results are guaranteed to be stunning.

The sprawling urban park spans 315 hectares in middle-upper Manhattan has so many photo-worthy angles to shoot, you’d need to spend at least a day there to get around. Whether it’s a fairytale-inspired shoot with the park’s horse carriages, its verdant landscape (if you’re going there in spring, you may get to see a few cherry blossom trees scattered around the Park. Or head there during the beginning of autumn where the leaves start to change colour – you’ll get a range of hues – from refreshing green to fiery orange and red), its urban landscape (notable buildings around include the Plaza Hotel), its several ornate bridges.
The Park also includes several grand structures within, such as Belvedere Castle (one of five visitor centres), and The Dairy. Then there is also the Strawberry Fields, a memorial dedicated to the late Beatle and musician, John Lennon.

One of the oldest bridges in New York City and in the United States, the cable-stayed/suspension bridge was completed in 1883, and has since become an icon of the Empire State. It’s also not hard to see why it’s a popular venue for shoots and films – it simply makes for great pictures (see above). In fact, the popular couple on Instagram, Murad and Nataly Osman, headed there for their very own photoshoot. The couple, known for their #followmeto photo series, rose to fame by featuring Nataly’s back profile in some of the most picturesque places in the world. The Brooklyn Bridge, naturally, was included in one of them. In fact, when I was there on holiday (March 2016), I came upon a couple who happened to be taking their bridal portraits on the bridge.

If you’re a fan of Sex and the City, you’ll know that protagonist and leading lady Carrie Bradshaw nearly got married in this beautiful space… until she got stood up by Mr. Big (who she eventually married in City Hall). The second largest library in the United States (and fourth largest in the world), the imposing structure, featuring classical details, towering pillars, arches and frescoes, offers nearly 53 million items for reading, and research. And, if you’re into architecture, you shouldn’t miss its Rose Main Reading Room, which features crystal chandeliers and frescoes. One of the busiest railroad interchanges in the world, the terminal boasts an impressive facade on New York City’s 42nd Street. First opened in 1871, then rebuilt in 1913, the building offers several photo-worthy spots for beautiful pictures. There is the Main Concourse, the ticket windows (such a cute concept if you both met at the train station), Vanderbilt Hall (so named for the family who built and owned the station), and its exterior.

The streets of New York City, such as the apartments with the fireman staircase exits, and Brooklyn brownstone houses, are also iconic in their own right. If you’re both living in the city, or simply love its look and feel, an empty alleyway can make beautiful snaps, too.

The privately-owned park, located just behind the New York Public Library isn’t as big as Central Park, but there are still aspects of the area that make for great shots. For instance, there is the whimsical Le Carrousel, as well as the Bryant Park Cafe, which has an outdoor area (covered by a clear tent, and is covered with fairylights) that’ll make for a memorable album.
