the best friend, the best family, the best groom and the best day

Even if we didn’t get to listen to the entire speech, the excerpts pieced together from the wedding video Britany Maack shared, should give you some ideas for your very own.

1. Be descriptive
It’s not enough to give a brief background on how the couple met, or how much you love the bride, groom, or both. Swift, who’s best known for her beautiful lyrics in her love songs, came up with this line that sounds like it could come right out of a poem: “He would chase her and pursue her through middle school, and junior high and high school, and their paths would diverge and then come back together. And it would be so magically unpredictable but at the same time, so incredibly fated, just like the best love stories are.”

2. Pay homage to your best friend
If the bride’s chosen you to be the maid of honour, you obviously mean the world to her. Return the love by including a line or two about how much she means to you too in your speech. Again, Swift delivered: “My favourite accomplishment of my entire life is that everything in my life has changed, except for me and Brittany. She was my partner-in-crime at Brownies sleep-away camp, and she was my date to the Grammys.”

3. Keep it short but sweet
While we’re not sure how long the speech lasted exactly, we thought Swift wrapped it up nicely. “Tonight we got mothers crying, we got fathers that’re (sic) filled with pride and I and all of the rest of your friends are overjoyed for you because we know that the best parts of your love story are yet to come. Congratulations!”
