#1 Don’t go overboard

If you’re afraid of your Disney wedding looking like a full-on carnival or overly kiddish, try toning down on the details. Not everything has to be in line with the theme – there are certain aspects that you can play up, like your dessert table, reception table, or stage decor. A gamut of bright colours are great for enlivening the ambience, but can also run the risk of looking overwhelming if not matched properly. Consider balancing with pastels or neutrals.

#2 A modern celebration

The key to making any themed celebration look modern is infusing it with current trends. Pick key elements from your chosen theme, then mix it with modern details or luxe it up (think crystal or glass serviceware to go with a fairy tale theme or rustic theme). You’d also want to include personal details that the both of you like. The wedding should be a reflection of you as a couple afterall.

#3 Be inspired by the movies

Even if yours is a generic theme that’s not movie-inspired, referencing the big screen is always a good way to start. For example, The Great Gatsby is a popular pick for 20s-themed celebrations. Marie Antoinette is a great choice for couples after the opulence of the Rococo period.
