Love is truly in the little things. While you or your partner may appreciate grand gestures once in a while, it’s the everyday details – like waiting for you to get off work so you can have dinner together – that matter.

Illustrator Andrew Hou, a Canadian-born-Chinese, knows this best. In a series of illustrations he drew for his Korean wife, he depicts the little daily activities he and his wife does, which are moments he appreciates best.

According to the Huffington Post, he’s been married to his wife, Kate (also known as HJ) for five years, and they both currently reside in Seoul, Korea. As the couple hardly spent time together due to the nature of their jobs, Andrew and Kate used these illustrations to stay connected.

Korean wasn’t Andrew’s native tongue either, which made it more difficult for them to communicate. How did they do it, then? “Making silly, sappy doodles was my workaround for the problem,” he told Huffington Post.
