From The Straits Times    |

By now, everyone and their grandma has ventured out to explore the expansive Jewel Changi Airport – all 10 stories and 1.46 million square feet with over 200 retail shops and 112 eateries. If you’re planning to shoot your pre-wedding photos (or couple OOTDs) at this now iconic space, here’s a quick guide to some of Jewel’s most Instagrammable spots. You’re gonna want to bookmark this page.

What to note: During the opening phase of Jewel, refinement of operational procedures were still underway/ongoing. As such, Jewel was unable to accommodate requests for wedding photo shoots or filming on-site. But we’ve got a heads up that guests will soon be able to submit such requests, subject to approval. More details on this process will be shared at a later time.

#1 Have an Avatar-esque wedding shoot

Image: Jewel Changi Airport Devt.

If you love Avatar’s fantasy world Pandora, this is the next best thing you can get on our shores. In fact, it was inspired by the movie’s spectacular landscape. And this view of the verdant Forest Valley leading to the Rain Vortex will have you feeling like you’re stepping into James Cameron’s mystical fictional world, especially come night time, when the Forest Valley’s lit up in various jewel-toned lights.

For a top-down shot, send your photographer to the second floor near the Terminal 1 Arrival Hall.

#2 For a shimmering backdrop — at Basement 2 near A&W

There’s the view of the vortex from a height and a distance (stunning!) but picture yourself posed against its cascading sheet of water at the lower levels of Jewel Changi near the food area. In fact, it makes for a great cinematograph (with you as a still picture and the backdrop in motion) if your photographer’s able to do it, too.

#3 Step into a floral wonderland at Petal Garden at Level 5 Canopy Park

The Botanic Gardens and Gardens By The Bay aren’t just where you’ll be able to take your wedding pictures against a backdrop of blooms. Petal Garden at the newly opened Canopy Park puts up creative displays of seasonal flowers from around the world.

#4 Have fun with the ‘wildlife’ at the Topiary Walk at Level 5 Canopy Park

Image: Jewel Changi Airport Devt.

Monkey see, monkey do… the Topiary Walk (next to Petal Garden) has a number of photogenic animal sculptures (peacocks, crocodiles etc…) to pose alongside, while the “Do No Evil” action here is hard to resist, you could just strike a pretty pose.

#5 Pose alongside the Old Changi Airport Tower at Level 5’s Canopy Park Discovery Slide

Image: Jewel Changi Airport Devt.

The Canopy Park is also home to the shiny Discovery Slide for futuristic shots. And if you’re in for a nostalgic addition to your wedding photos, it offers a rare view of the original Changi Airport viewing tower.

#6 Peer through the glass at the Canopy Bridge

Apart from a great vantage point, this glass-bottomed bridge that’s suspended 23 metres above ground features fog emitted at both ends so you get the experience of walking among the clouds.

#7 Walk the tightrope at Level 5 Canopy Park

We already see a number of kids (and kiddults) breaking out crazy poses and Boomerangs while they have a go at the 250m stretch of Bouncing-and-Walking nets that look all the way down to the basement. If a fear of heights is not an issue, this giant trampoline with its non-linear surface is a fun hurdle to scale.

For obvious reasons, we wouldn’t recommend taking photos here in your wedding gown (consider a casual white playsuit or bridal jumpsuit instead). But if you’re feeling a tad more adventurous, have wedding portraits snapped at the Manulife Sky Nets as evidence of your pluckiness. Alternatively, stand on the wooden platform on the edge of the nets with your sweetheart with the graphic netting as your backdrop.

#8 Catch a reflection of Jewel’s architecture at Level 5 Canopy Garden

Just past the Topiary Walk, you’ll chance on this shimmering reflection of Jewel’s stunning Steel and Glass architecture. Random piece of trivia, the dome is made up of over 9,000 pieces of specially manufactured glass.

#9 Get lost within the Mirror Maze

A psychedelic spot for visually cool #aesthetic pictures, it has neon floor lights and an open overhead design that lets in sunlight from the top. Just be careful you don’t walk into a mirrored wall!

#10  Obviously, the Rain Vortex at the heart of the Forest Valley

Whether you capture the 40m tall HSBC Rain Vortex by day or night, the result is the same: stunning, awe-inspiring and just breathtaking. While it’s already been photographed to death by just about anyone living/visiting Singapore, it’s a shot worth having on your socials or wedding abum. And don’t worry it’s an eco-friendly attraction using collected and recycled rainwater, which is also used to irrigate the plants in the Forest Valley.

Not to be forgotten, the four-story multi-sensory trail makes for a pretty backdrop. Think of this like a hike around MacRitchie or Bukit Timah Hill, just less strenuous and in air-conditioned comfort. Look out especially for the orchids, palm trees and over 60,000 different shrubs.

Call this the local version of Kyoto’s Arashiyama or a more weather-friendly transplant of Botanic Garden’s bamboo forest, either way, the lush, leafy backdrop makes for an artsy mood shot, with the sunshine streaming in.
