Instead of your bridal party, ask if your Mom would like to help you get dressed, and spend those last moments before the wedding together. It’ll make for a beautifully sentimental moment, especially when it comes to your traditional wedding garments.

For Sophia and Remi, maintaining a long-distance and cross-cultural relationship – she’s from Taiwan, and he France, had been tough on their families as well as them – culminating in an emotional wedding day that saw both tears and joy.
“Both of our moms gave emotional speeches during our solemnisation. It was the most memorable part of our wedding day,” says Sophia.

My Mom always said that I could eschew any wedding tradition I wanted (if my spouse’s parents were okay with it too) as long there was the Chinese wedding tea ceremony because it symbolised the respect shown to elders.
If there’s a cultural tradition that’s important to her, incorporating it in your wedding is one of the best ways to honour her.

Display pictures of your parents’ own nuptials, and of Mom in her wedding finery. Not only will her heart be filled, we’re sure your guests will enjoy taking a trip down memory lane.

We have heard of couples who handed out mini bottles of their mothers or grandmothers’ signature kaya or jam spreads (and even sambal belachan) as wedding favours. If she’s more than willing to whip up her specialty spreads or cookies, consider including them in the dessert table or as favours.
And be sure to give her a shout-out during your speech (she might say she’s shy or embarrassed but she’ll definitely be pleased) or include a “Made By” tag on the bottle.
