Ideas & Advice

6 kiss-proof lipsticks you can count on for your wedding day

These budge-proof lip colours will take you through the champagne toasts, kisses and party food - minimal touch-ups needed.

When it comes to wedding day makeup, we all want products who stay on without migrating elsewhere, especially when you'll be greeting guests all day and evening, and the photographer's camera will be focused on your face.

For a picture-perfect pout, of course, you'll need to prep your kissers too. Start with a good exfoliation and use a lip primer as well as a lip liner (either clear or in the nearest shade to your lippie). Application matters too! Invest in a lip brush for precise application, and swipe with a light hand to layer on your preferred intensity. Don't forget to blot in between each layer! This will help each to cling on better.

Fenty Stunna Lip Paint, $36

Riri's super saturated Stunna Lip Paint promises 12 hours of staying power, with a weightless formula that's comfortable on the lips. It's available in 5 different shades, four of which are totally aisle-worthy. Want a nude lip? Go for Unbutton. For a head-turning look, Uncensored is a universally flattering crimson hue that'll brighten up your wedding day look.

Available at Sephora.

Bobbi Brown Luxe Liquid Lip Velvet Matte, $49

The brand's first matte liquid lipstick, it comes in nine shades and is created with natural clay minerals and wild mango extract to keep your kissers supple and kissable while surviving a busy wedding day.

Available at Bobbi Brown stores, counters and Sephora.

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte, $40

Founder Huda Rattan's highly raved about Liquid Matte lippies have a slight sheen upon application but dry to a matte finish. That being said, it's a little runnier but that also means you have more time to play around with the buildup of colour and shaping it. It delivers a highly pigmented, non-drying and transfer-free formula while staying comfortable.

Available at Sephora.

Too Faced Melted Matte Liquified Long Wear Matte Lipstick, $33

It goes on like a lip gloss upon application but turns matte when it dries. There's a vast range of colours, too, so there's one for every bride. You can also mix the colours to get your desired shade. For a lippie with good colour payoff that isn't drying on the lips, this is a definite go-to.

Available at Sephora.

Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink, $17.90

Wait for 30 seconds and it'll dry to a soft matte finish so budge-proof, well, let's just say Maybelline had to formulate a special SuperStay remover. It boasts 16 hours of wear - more than enough to take you from the morning tea ceremony to the evening banquet. However, it can have a tendency to highlight lines and creases, so hydrate with a lip balm before swiping this on.
Available at Watsons.

MaxFactor Lipfinity Lip Colour, $22.90

What this lippie promises is 24 hours of staying power and intense colour payoff, in two steps. First apply the colour, wait for a minute for it to set and dry, then swipe on the moisturising top coat. The only catch: You'll need to reapply the balm top coat regularly throughout the wedding day, so keep it in your bridal clutch

Available at selected Watsons and the Watsons website.
