1) Olive Oil
While olive oil is up on the list of healthy foods, if you are hoping to lose weight, this will only add extra calories to your meal. Instead, use an olive oil spray for cooking and balsamic or lemon dressing for salads.
2) Diet Soda
Artificial sweeteners in these drinks are proven to increase appetite, causing you to devour the calories later in the day.
3) Frozen Meals
Getting frozen meals can sometimes be unavoidable for the busy working woman. But these meals are high in salt content, which will cause your body to retain water. Check the nutritional information on your meals – anything containing more than 1.5g of salt per 100g is high.
4) Nuts
Nuts are recommended for those who are habitual snackers to keep you full for a longer period of time. Despite being high in iron content and vitamins, nuts are notoriously high in calories.
5) Low-fat Yoghurt
While you may turn to low-fat yoghurt as a substitute for normal yoghurt which is high in calories, low-fat yoghurt might not be the best. It increases appetite due to the presence of artificial sweeteners.
6) Salmon
For every 100g of salmon, there are 210 calories and 14g of fat. Next time, switch from salmon to mushrooms or grilled tomatoes on your night out.
7) Cereal
Cereal is easy to eat and filling, but it can mess up your diet as well. High in sugar and fat, one bowl of cereal will leave you craving for more.
8) Juices
Ordering a fruit juice or smoothie can seem really healthy. However, a green smoothie with added artificial sweeteners can have the same amount of calories as a white chocolate mocha. Switch out juices for teas instead.
9) Alcohol
We all know alcohol is bad for dieting. But it is not the calorie content that is the problem. Alcohol is passed from the stomach directly to the liver and there the body focuses its energy on breaking the toxins down.
10. Snack bars
Unlike how they are marketed, snack bars works opposite your body when you’re dieting. They are loaded with sugar and are full of calories. Instead, make a simple DIY granola bar at home for a healthier option.
