GET THE DECOR RIGHT!
Former planner Ying Ying Tan suggests going for colour palettes that include gold, silver and ivory or rich hues like a violet or royal blue for a glamorous do.

She says: “For a lavish affair, consider a 1920s style inspired by The Great Gatsby – complete with art deco elements, a blingy flapper gown with headpiece and pearls, plus champagne with gold leaf. Plush seating, table runners, candelabras and gold as well as silver frames will also go fabulously with this look. Alternatively, decorative hanging lights, lamps with patterned shades or blossom-bedecked crystal chandeliers can make guests’ jaws drop as well.”

BE A STYLE STAR
Eve Thomas, www.theoutnet.com’s styling director, says you should wear a gown that not only looks fabulous but is also comfortable and allows you to move about freely and dance. Another tip: “Translate your everyday style aesthetic to your evening look,” says Eve.

She adds: “A gown in a rich jewel tone is stunning, especially when paired with metallic heels. Brides looking to make a statement can also look at dresses with unexpected details such as cut-outs or a keyhole back. A statement necklace, chandelier earrings or a bold cocktail ring can completely transform an outfit. Sparkly shoes are also an easy way to jazz up a simple design.”

SHINE BRIGHT
When it comes to accessories, Helan Tan, founder of bridal accessory boutique Gioielli, suggests going for unique pieces with just a touch of sparkle or an interesting texture.

“Most brides don’t realise that just one jewelled brooch is sometimes all it takes to make an evening number stand out. It really depends on the design of the gown, but a crystal headpiece or a fascinator can really turn heads and elevate your bridal style.”

WITH MAKEUP, LESS IS MORE
Oily skin and perspiration may be the stuff of makeup nightmares, but they are not uncommon as brides rush around in our humidity, says celebrity makeup artist Khai Lee who has worked with Mediacorp artistes Rebecca Lim and Fann Wong. His solution: Avoid heavy moisturisers and foundation; go for medium base coverage that won’t streak or cake.

“Fake lashes glam up the eyes and will show beautifully in photos. But go easy on the glitter – too much on the eyes or lips can look tacky. I’d advice a bride to think twice about experimenting with makeup trends for her wedding as they may prove unsuitable once on. Colours that complement the eyes and skin tone to enhance your features always win.”
