From The Straits Times    |
When fashion entrepreneur (she’s the founder of local label Klarra) and social media influencer Beatrice Tan tied the knot to Dean Krstevski, chief operating officer of a fintech company, she wore a custom satin mermaid gown with an oversized bow in the back as well as a custom pantsuit with a bustier top and detachable train from Singapore bridal label Silhouette The Atelier. We were at Beatrice’s wedding dress fitting, and spoke to the designers from Silhouette The Atelier on how the designs came to fruition.

What was working with Beatrice like?
We keep track of fashion trends every season, too, so it was both exhilarating and easy to work with her.

Fabric, silhouette, cut, details… What were your main considerations when creating her outfits?

Beatrice’s style is minimalist and unique. After sharing her vision – simple yet stunning; nothing over the top with lace and beading, please – the design team headed for the loft on the premises, which is where we congregate to brainstorm for the bespoke orders we do.
Several concepts and sketches later, we presented two bespoke proposals to Beatrice that we thought would complement her personality, be comfortable to wear, and really make her shine.
The first was a solemnisation gown with a big bow in the back. For the wedding dinner, a pantsuit with a glittery, detachable train and a flower fashioned out of fabric at the waist.

Both were very modern, sleek and stunning. How were you able to combine the different elements and still keep the focus on Beatrice?
She is an entrepreneur, an influencer and owner of a ready-to-wear company, Klarra. In other words, the epitome of a modern-day career woman in Singapore with her own sense of style.
The designs we presented were sophisticated and bold while being minimalist, and allowed her strong confidence to beam through.
Lady Gaga’s unique style was one of our inspirations, and Beatrice took to that well. Aside from the structured bow, the other fabrics we chose were soft and flowy, and cut to flatter her long torso as well as the rest of her silhouette.
Essentially, they complemented instead of competed with her, and she looked ah-mazing! Silhouette The Atelier was very honoured to be a part of her joyous moments.

What would you advise a bride to choose: bespoke or off the rack?

Bespoke, of course. With customisation, you can choose the design and incorporate the details you want. Most off-the-racks tend not have all the details you desire in one design.
Highly skilled and knowledgeable, our designers are able to combine different elements to produce a bride’s dream gown. This is something she’ll wear only once, and it should make her feel like a princess.
Of course, a lot of work goes into achieving that. The gown has to be tailored to flatter her form. And the fabric – there are many shades of white, for instance – and embellishments need to complement her skin tone.
We source our quality fabrics and laces from all around the world, and hand-sew the exquisite details onto each and every gown. A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event. Our master tailors are committed to giving every bride the gown she deserves.

When it comes to customisation, what advise would you give to brides-to-be?
• Firstly, know your personal style.
Would you prefer a dreamy look or something more glamorous or even Gatsbyesque?
• Secondly, will it go with your overall theme? A flowy, light style is great for a beach wedding, while a grand design will make you the centre of attention in a ballroom setting.
• Thirdly, consider your budget. A consultation with us will give you a rough idea of what you’ll need toput aside because customisation means working from scratch.
Your gown should take up to eight months to produce, and up to six fittings, so that it fits you perfectly and comfortably.

Every Silhouette The Atelier gown is handmade in Singapore. It takes time for our designers to source the quality fabrics that sit against bodies in the most flattering way. What’s more, each creation is one of a kind – made only for that bride.
Our team finds fulfilment in delivering trustworthy, reliable service. We simply want to bring joy and ensure every bride looks fabulous on her special day.
