Thumb print posters
Yes, this oft-repeated idea is almost running its course, but we still love the riot of colours and simple concept! Your guests don’t even have to rack their brains for oft-repeated words. A literal “thumbs-up” at your wedding, as well as their presence, is all the love and support you need. Make it more interesting by asking guests to draw their own “portraits” onto their print. And, if you’ve got a large guest list, just print your illustration on a larger piece of paper, and provide a little more inks, in case they dry out.

Jigsaw puzzles
Whether it’s a customised picture or illustration, or an actual jigsaw puzzle you both adore, get guests to sign at the back of each piece at the wedding. Post-wedding, piece it up (you can do it yourselves or get someone to do so), and have it framed for a lovely keepsake.

Quilts or blankets
For a rustic or cosy touch, get guests to leave their blessings on pieces of cloth, which you can sew together after the wedding. That, or leave the entire fabric on the table, and leave instructions for them to sign in each square. You can either frame it up, or use it in the bedroom. Although, you’ll want to make sure the ink you provide doesn’t run easily, or is chemically safe for you to come in extra close contact with.

World maps
If you’re having a destination or travel-themed wedding, or expecting guests from all over the world, get guests to sign outside (or inside) the continents, whichever you prefer. For your overseas celebration, you can mark the city you’re in with an ‘X’, and connect it to your country of origin with polka dots, representing the journey you’ve travelled. You can do the same if you were in a relationship that spanned several countries.

Instead of the regular guestbook, have them pen their best wishes on pretty little notecards with envelopes they can stick onto a blank guestbook. PHOTO: Her World Brides Sept – Nov 2013.

Notes of love
Love the idea of reading individual letters in envelopes? Have guests write a mini love-letter with small pieces of note paper, and leave it in little envelopes stuck onto a large cardboard background, or scrapbook.

Putting it all together
Like the quilt guest book, you can either have guests sign on individual pieces of paper (cut in whatever shape you prefer) and put it together after, or stick them on beforehand, and have them carefully pen their message. Either way, it’ll make a lovely fixture in your new home.

Bookworm gang
This has several versions: if you’re religious, you can get guests to highlight their favourite verses, and mark them with post-its with a message. Or highlight their favourite phrases in any book, or the word that best describes you as a couple (or individually) in a dictionary. Such a neat idea, especially if you’re both book-lovers!
