Behind-the-scenes at our Maldives shoot. Sunblock and umbrellas were absolute necessities while shooting in the heat on the island! PHOTO: Her World Brides

Whether it’s at the Maldives during summer or a winter wonderland themed shoot in Europe during the year-end holidays, take note of these pointers:

Steam steam steam!
Not every hotel has a steamer to help you get your wedding outfits crease-free. Get a portable steamer for below $200 at Best Denki or any good electronics store. Alternatively you can use the hotel’s laundry services but they usually take two days to steam a gown, and it won’t be cheap.

You can also hang your outfits in the bathroom and steam it up by filling the tub with hot water the night before the shoot. After the clothes have been steamed, take a long leisurely bath!

Block the sun!
The sun during the winter or summer seasons overseas can cause major sunburn and tanned skins. Always bring a good sunblock and apply liberally on exposed skin. Also bring along an umbrella to shade yourself outdoors while the photographers gets his angle right.

Sew right
Have a small sewing kit on standby; you may damage your gown travelling from one location to another. A roll of clear scotch tape is also a must – it’s great for sealing tears in thin, gauzy fabrics.

Sneaker Style
If you’re planning to shoot at a rough terrain – rocky mountain tops or a forest location – bring a pair of comfortable platform sneakers. Wear them instead of your heels. They provide the height you need for your gown and are easy to move around. Just make sure your dress covers them from view.

Cover up
For quick change of outfits at outdoor locations, bring along one or two large pareos or lightweight blankets that can be held high to create a makeshift ‘dressing room,’ or as curtains to cover the windows of the vehicle you are travelling in.
