All her life, Gabrielle Chanel – also known as Coco Chanel or Mademoiselle Chanel – has always been drawn to the mesmerising, powerful and mysterious powers of the comets and the stars. Many say it was because as a child, she always passed through a corridor that was paved with geometric patterns and stars.
Gabrielle Chanel believed that celestial dust was the way to go about bringing out the beauty within women. So it was no wonder what the theme behind her first high jewellery collection was. The Bijoux de Diamants – presented in Paris, in 1932 – was nothing short of Gabrielle Chanel’s dreams. "I wanted to cover women with constellations. Stars! Stars of all sizes ..." she said.
To this day the Comet continues to inspire new creations and has become the very emblem of CHANEL’s Fine Jewellery. More so, CHANEL’s 2018 High Jewellery collection, Comète, carries on Gabrielle Chanel’s inspiration while glorifying the rock spirit of CHANEL – with new ways of wearing jewellery pieces by introducing onyx, black spinels and the chevron pattern into the diamond collection.
