Imposter syndrome is a psychological phenomenon when an individual doubts their skills, talents or accomplishments, and has this persistent internalised fear of being exposed as a “fraud”.

In short, imposter syndrome happens when you don’t believe in yourself. According to Shireena Shroff Manchharam, the founder and principal consultant of Sheens Image Consulting, imposter syndrome is especially prevalent in Singapore, where the fear of failure is high.

In the first episode of Her World Pow Wow, a women-empowering podcast series, Editor Ng Yi Lian and #HerWorldTribe member/host Charmaine Yee spoke to Shireena about imposter syndrome: what it means, how to spot the signs, why it’s important to overcome it, and how to go about doing so.
